shorter distances will max out earlier than longer distances

Since this is voodoo math we are talking about going to 1/1000ths seems a stretch since the wind is only to the 1/10 plus I've seen Rieti listed as 384m,402m and 410m.
These numbers are benchmarked on a 6' 175 pound male athlete running 10.00, I believe.
Anyway you slice it... it's the new WR, on to the final..
Reaction times of 0.137 and then 0.120 in the final gets us to what the boiscience guy often cite 0.115-0.125 being the shortest time humans can respond to the gun.

Powell's WR video here
Wow, he lets up like 5-10m early.
Too bad he can't actually win when it matters.
9.74 huh? The other guy that ran 9.77 was caught for drugs. The guy that ran 9.78 was too. So was the first guy under 9.80. I'm sure he's legit though.
Reminds me of Torri Edwards after she started taking the Balco stuff. She made winning look too easy.
I think we have a new designer drug on our hands.

Torri Edwards was never involved with Balco and she never won all that easily.
And I don't think Powell's taking anything. He's just good. But my bet is that he's not the best.
of the drugs they test for he has noneso he's called number onenow it's up to mister gayto come out and playthe faster they runthe more the funto really find out who's cleanthey would have to test the spleen.http://msn.foxsports.com/other/story/7207300

Sprinting fast is all about running relaxed, clearly Asafa has problems with that in the big meets.
I can't believe he let up...
It was a semi

If you are a sprinter all you ever hear is relax and let the speed come out. It's true! out around 60m the more you push to gain speed the more you lose. Relaxing and maintaining speed is the key. Top end speed... some top end at 50m some 55 some even 65 but everyone is top ended by 70-75m
He who decelerates least is fastest to the line.
I have not seen a good smooth video of the race but I doubt there was more than 0.005 lost on the run in if stride pattern was optimal may be 0.003 for a better finish lean but again until I see a good clean video I think we saw all of what he had with him today .
Anothyer board says the final might have actually been a better technical race- Basic voodoo math aside two of the best runs ever and most certainly bestpair within an hour .
Letting up early, doing it when it does no matter, and still smashing the world record....
Im more impressed with Gay winning last week. Powell has proven the he is not a fierce competitor and I will venture to say the olympics are not going to be as "sick" as some think. Comparing to the WC's there is no magic training program that gets you that good that quick not even drugs. He had the same potencial two weeks ago and was dominated by Gay.
Asafa is obviously doped up but hey who isn't. 9.74 on drugs is still amazing since the next best guy has only gone 9.77 and he was on some stuff too.
somehomodude wrote:It is amazing how dominant Greene was. He has to be the best 100 guy of all time. Completely dominant in both times and championships, and his times still hold up extremely well ...
Looks like Powell is the dominant one now
http://www.alltime-athletics.com/m_100ok.htmWorld record are more worth than Champion Title, that for sure.
There are very few men, who had set WR in 100m, but bunch of World champs with sluggish times.
I think it was Seoul 1988, when Mike Marsh ran a 19.73 (WR at the time was 19.72) in the semis. My recollection is also that he shut it down a little at the end so probably would've set the WR that race had he raced through the finish. I guess it shows what you some guys can do when they're relaxed.
