Hi I just had my first college cross country race and it went horrible. I need help. Some background info, I ran 17:30s in high school and ran a hilly 8k over the summer in 28:53 and I was happy with that time. Since then I have ran 70,44(cut back week),77,72, and 72 mile weeks with two hard track workouts in each of the last two weeks. I hit the first mile today in 5:30 and felt okay and then just flat out died this never happens to me. I finished in 31:15 and the last three miles were the longest miles of my life my legs just flat out would not go. I dont what the problem is. I know I am in shape from all the miles but the last three days my legs have felt horrible. What should I do now? I am planning on taking two days off and going from there any help would be apprecitated.
