Didn't Snell run something like 140mpw at about 7:30 pace? That would put him as a jogger by some of your standards.
Not like I care, I think this is all elitist BS anyways.
A jogger is a runner less any competitive dispostion whatsoever.
I think the first answer was best.

anyone who trains to get faster is a runner. anyone who trains for fitness and has no care for pace is a jogger.
Under this definition I'm a runner.
But, since my highest weekly total ever was only 98, I'm not a runner in the eyes of thoner.
So sad am I, if only I had gone another 13 minutes on just one of those days, then a runner I would be, but alas, I am condemned to joggerhood until that triple digit week I log!
And congratulations to all the ultra runners out there! For even if you can?t run a sub 5, or string together a couple sub 6?s, worry not, because as long as the weekly total is a 3 digit number, then a runner you are!
Thoner, a question for you. For those who live outside the US. Is it necessary to log 160.9 K in a week to become a runner, or will a mere 100 do, since THAT is the magic number?
Phipps
Good post Phipps. Thoner is stuck in a world or arbitrary distances and arbitrary numbers. Why is 100 the magic number? Why not 102.332? Why not 201? Why not 97.2345?
Anyone who uses a certain pace as the criteria is just as guilty of being "stuck in a world of arbitrary numbers".
Ok.
If you ask the question, you're a jogger.

Would you call someone who runs less than 25 miles a week a runner? 20, 15, 10?
Anyone on this forum just a fan and no longer really runs at a consistent basis?
Joey
yes, and i too run 100 mpw, but i agree with others who question using weekly mileage as a criterion. really, 100 mpw is not that impressive. most guys on these message boards who train half seriously for long distance events run that kind of mileage.
thoner--are you the same "thoner" that appears on coolrunning?
Anyone who can simply say yes to this quesion with no question in there mind is a runner. What other standard could there be?
is someone who runs. A jogger is someone who jogs.
You guys are all stupid... Is this the runners world forum? Have I been deep-linked without my knowledge?

It's not a yes or no question.............
Phipps, that would be a good question for JasonInChina. He runs kilometers, not miles like I do.
Stop bashing my question. I am a human being with feelings, dammit.
Joey
Gosh, Thoner, it must really suck to get beat by all those joggers.
Dream on. By the way girlwonder, you are probably a high school or college male posting as a different name.........you may also want to quit "fliping" back and forth between Dystat and here as you kiddos have been watering down the playing field for too long.
My advice would be to make sure you are attending and passing all your classes and in the meantime, build up your mileage to over 100 a week and wonderful things will happen to your performances. be patient, though, as it will take some time to go from jogger to runner.
thoner, why don't you do us the honor of posting your personal records.
I am not the fastest on this board, however there are only a few who are faster. It is a no win situation for any of us really to post our times. If you post any fast time, it will be called a lie by others on this board (see other threads). Even if you post the truth, lots of others will post bogus times just to be faster than yours. I know what they are and that is all that matters to me.........and no, just like the rest of you, I will not post my true identity on an "internet" board in cyberspace for obvious reasons.
That is the smartest post you've ever made Thoner.
