The guy went for it and it didn't work out. Not a good outcome, but the effort is not worthy of contempt.
He could have DNF'ed when thwe wheels startedf falling off the jalopy but didn't. That earns my respect.
Don't misquote the guy. He never s--t on anyone or anything regarding 2:15, just looked past it, and that raised some hackles among people who can be a little sensitive
Finally, and this is IMO, the real trouble lies in the opposite of what CG did -- I mean setting too LOW a goal. There are ARMIES of US runners who see 2:20 or 2:22 (the "magic USOT #'s") as a goal when IMO they should be aiming to run 2:15. I would hate to think that a guy with Hauser's chops and toughness could be happy running 2:14. I sure hope for his own debvelopment's sake that he's pretty p---ed.
