Is it just me or did all these guys peak in April?
Is it just me or did all these guys peak in April?
Kind of like everyone in the US
I just read the article on Wired about this project..sounds pretty cool. anyone know anything about the the therapy pool they have?

Will you folks just relax and give Alberto a chance to work out the proper Drug cycles.
My biggest issue with Oregon Project is that Salazar is throwing anything and everything at the guys. How is one to assess what is having an effect and what is not?
I think some of the stuff is voodoo--like the gizmo that gives VO2max and if you are ready for training or top competition on that day. I have actually seen it and have yet to see any validation of it. (It is the Omega Wave thing.)
No scientist not attached to the company that I have talked with thinks it is legit. (I will say that measuring heart rate variation has some credibility and that is one of the functions supposedly).
anybody know if they are employing a hyperbaric chamber after their high intensity runs?
IMHO, Salazar is missing some of the very BASIC ingredients, such as a live-in cook/nutritionist and massage therapist.
When Salazar was running good, what did he do? My guess is that he was talented and worked hard. Why now does he feel that he needs to coach with all of the bells and whistles? I can see the value in understanding the science and how to apply it to training, but isn't this going just a bit overboard. If they want altitude, why not just go there, train for a period of time, and if they feel the need to go back to sea level to start the prep for races, then go back to sea level. I would think that Nike could affort two houses. When they are doing their base work at altitude Salazar does not need to be there everyday does he? At some point it is just running isn't it? When you are running 110-120 mile plus a week, a lot of it is just going to be running, how did it get to be so complicated?
It is rather simple. If they are poking and prodding and it becomes part of routine, it is easy to drug an unsuspecting athlete that has built a level of trust in his coach. I will bet that Lagat is dirty, but that he didn't know it. It takes nothing for an athlete that you are "testing" regularly, to drug that athlete without their knowledge.
Just like Ben Johnson didn't know, right?
What doctor, trainer, coach, agent or manager would risk his license, livlihood and reputation to drug an athlete behind his back. Unlike if he gets caught for drugs, the person administering it without the athletes knowledge would also go to jail.
There is NO upside for any of the aforementioned people to "secretly" drug an athlete.
What is potentially worth it is to tell an athlete to do whatever he wants, but not to tell him about it.
ALL athletes who are drugged no they are. This bs about not knowing is just that, bs.

What Salazar got for all his hard work---in the end---was an abreviated career cut short by injury, burnout, and endocrinal problems. (Drug use accusations, put here). For about three years or so, the man literally ran himself into the ground. I guess it's better to be a has-been than a never-was, but I think Salazar's approach with these guys is a lot more long term. I do agree, though, that the DEGREE to the scientific stuff that he's using seems a bit wacked, and that "by now" these guys should be producing a little more than they are. We shall see.
Well put, Sklyon. Also I suspect that if you were to ask Salazar about this, he's probably say something like, "Yes but how fast could I have run if I had had all of this support and technology around me?"
Perhaps no faster at all. But the point is they're trying to find that out. They're trying new things.
What he got for all his hard work was ARs in 5K 13:11?, 10K 27:25, marathon 2:08:51, 5 mile 22:05 road, 4 major marathon wins, NYC x 3 & BAA, a possble WR in the marathon if Lebow had not measured wrong, idiot. Also AlSal made 2 O-GAmes teams, 10K & marathon-14th place 1984LA. SO what if he walks with a limp today? Skylon what are you talking about..abreviated career, I'd take, how about you, no?

Not after paying the endoresment deal for Lebron James.
like someone several posts suggested Lagat might have been unconsciously. But seriously would he be so stupid to thing sudden improvement was all attributed to his training and superior genetic, or is his head that far up he arse.
I think it is inappropriate to comment on the house when you dont really know first hand what is going on inside of it. The men are all responding differently to the altitude effects, and such. Alberto is having fun trying out new ideas on the guys to test the theories. Some of them work, some of them don't. I also know the Russians who designed the programming that they use in the house that test such things as VO2, and they have done a good job. It is real, and it does work. It is rather discouraging for people to give false comments on the validity of something like the VO2 machine. Anyway, this process is still very experimental, but things are going fine. For future reference, please don't tear down Alberto or make false comments on the Project. The process is having good results. Alberto knows what he is doing. Thanks.
Article on the Oregon Project:
what is your point. I am fully aware of the article and have actually read it numerous times.
Um, I was just posting the article for the benefit of others to read; it was not intended for you specifically. Grow a few more brain cells.
Congratulations, you win
my apologies for the response. Your reply was to my post. I assumed. Thanks.
