Just watched willis today run a 2.14 1000m time trail. AMAZING. Ran the last 400m by himself.

bs, that would be a time trial equivalent to a 1.43 or 3.31, he would need to be in some sort of shape to cough up that lung
as much as i'd like to believe you, i'm going to have to pass.
That will make him missing the final all that more stupid for staying away from racing for the last two or three months.
2:14 no chance
Mr Rinaldi I know a lot of people who doubt your 2.17 1k in the middle of a session
...Willis has time trialed a 2.49 1200m before, so given that Willis may be fitter now than ever before I think 2.14 is entirely plausable...anyone who has trained with Willis knows the crazy stuff he can accomplish...Willis is easily in 3.30 shape....remember he has run 3.32 about 4 times.
Even a moderate athlete will tell you that you need race fitness before running pb times and as far I know I haven't seem him anywhere in Europe this summer.
Baddeley is flying at the moment and he ran 2.16 in Stockholm as he is race hardened this summer. I'd back Badders to beat Willis over 1500 at this moment in time.
Willis wins the 1,000 meter workout time trial gold medal!
Who's gonna take the 10X400 with 90 seconds recovery gold medal?

so he misses an entire winter's worht of base training and, as a result, is in 2 seconds BETTER shape than ever in the 1500m? sweet logic you've got there.
the 2:14 1000m time trial is fiction.

...then you obviously don't know willis.
I dont think you should write such a great athlete off so quickly mate, Willis ran 3.35 in May and by the time that he steps on the track in Osaka he would have had another 2 and a half months solid training behind him so to say he has no chance of being in PB shape at the moment because he got injured last winter seems quite ignorant when you consider he ran only 3 seconds off his PB in an early season 1500m which he won comfortably and looked incredibly easy in what seemed to be not great conditions.
I think that Willis has got a great chance of causing a big suprise in Osaka (i.e medalling or top six), I'm not saying he definitely will but I think he has a good chance of being competetive- the standard isn't amazing (Lagat's form? Kaouch- caught doper Ramzi- where is he? the two Komen's- no championship pedigree) and there are opputunities for people to step up to the plate for young athletes such as Webb, Willis , Baddeley, Kiprop.
I read a couple of articles with him saying he was in good shape and that he would set up key time trials in training so that the lack of racing wouldn't prevent him from being sharp for the world champs. Remember he has taken the approach of not racing because in his opinion (and he will know better than anyone else) that this is the best way to perform to his best so who knows it could result in him being better than ever.

The fastest Seb Coe ran for a 1K T/T was 2:14. Much as I like Mr Willis he aint in the same league as Mr Coe.
