If you think a 4:15 kid is getting half at miami/kent, you are out of your mind

Word on the street is that the NCAA has just approved Jeff Powers for a 6th year in cross. Stress fractures cost him 2 seasons, and he's getting one back. He hasn't run much this summer after injuring himself at USATF but he should still be good enough to put Central right back in the hunt.

Um, no.
I know nothing about this year so I am just going to make my predictions based on the last 8-10 years or so that I have been following the MAC.
Men -
Eastern Michigan
Central Michigan
Miami
Kent State
Ohio
Buffalo
Akron
Bowling Green
Toledo
Women-
Toledo
Akron
Ball State
Ohio
Miami
Eastern Michigan
Kent State
Central Michigan
Western Michigan
Bowling Green
Buffalo
Northern Illinois
uh, i know of a slightly slower than 4:15 miler getting offered 50% at miami within the last 5 years (he chose to go somewhere else). it's not unheard of.
Money has nothing to do with anything. I was simply giving props where props are due. I agree that time will tell if a great recruiting class becomes a great freshmen class. I back my boys because I bleed blue and gold not because they pay me green.
You got someone you want to back or you just enjoy taking pot shots?
Go Flashes!!
Which MAC team got the best freshman recruits this year? It seems like Kent got quite a few good frreshman. Whats Eastern, Central and Miami's incoming freshman look like?
no potshots intended. but it is a fact that Kent state men's cross country has underperformed based on all the props given for at least the last ten years. how many mac titles? how many mac top three finishes? it would be good for them to improve and make the conference better. so far they haven't. in track they have run much better and done a good job. just stating the facts brother.
Eastern doesn't have much coming in this year in terms of numbers, but the two time Michigan 1600 champ Cole Sanseverino is going to EMU.
I haven't heard much about any of the MAC schools this year in terms of recruiting like in years past.
What kind of times has Cole Sanseverino run in the 1600? What about the 800 and 3200?
Here's what I came up with...
Miami:
Robbie Fisher
Nick Helmuth- 3200(9:30's)
Michael Perry- 1600(4:15) & 3200(9:17)
Chris Dennison
Kent State:
John Minen
Scott Hilditch
Pat Gorby
Hosea Kipkemboi
Bowling Green:
Jeff Ehler
Michael Flores- 1600(4:38) 3200(10:25)
Max Group- 1600(4:49) 3200(10:27)
Johnstone Kirui- 8k(24:46) 5k(14:53)
Eric Lutton- 1600(4:45) 3200(10:48)
Christopher Moody- 1600(4:25) 3200(10:04)
Jesse Smuda- 1600(4:48) 3200(10:27)
Akron:
Brian Gibbons
Joe McCoy
Andy Morgan
Central Michigan:
none listed on 2007 roster
Every other team hasnt updated their roster.
Toledo got Elisha Kipchumba (brother of Roger from Kansas State / BGSU) who is touted as being as good as BG kid and the other who apparently ran 3:50 for 1500 3 weeks ago at altitude. Like I said before it may only lead to top half but just good to see Hadsell with some good men to work with for first time since they had Habte! I talked to Shook at Wildwood and she said the women appear to be loaded with very good newcomers and added Virginia Intermont transfer (4:35, 10:05) last week to already deep recruiting class.
Sanseverino ran 1:55.3 in the 800, 4:13.9 in the 1600, and 9:40 for the 3200 this year.
Who cares about the frosh the MAC schools are bringing in this year. Highly doubtful any of them will finish in the top 10 come at the MAC championships up in Mount Pleasant.

I think that's the point, to see if there ARE any frosh coming in that will have an impact.
You my friend are an idiot. There are all the D3's the GLIAC schools for D2 and quite a few others.
Men will be won by Eastern easily. Central and Miami battle for second. Women sounds like Ohio, Toledo and Akron and then everyone else. Looking forward to having the MAC back in Mt. Pleasant!
Go Chips!
Maybe NIU will be the big surprise with their three new Kenyan women!
Joel Kirsch is gonna be the hands down individual champ and just might lead the eastern Michigan eagles to a national title, with rumors of Paul Mcmullen coming in to help with the team its all over.....
So does anyone know what the MAC course is like this year? Fast and flat or slow and hilly? What kind of 8k time will it take to be in the top ten this year (if conditions aren't horrible like last year) ?
