'pre mentality' ?
pre was never close to this.

Indeed....
It's pretty obvious to me now that webb can go faster than 27:30 too. I know it gets said all the time... but damn, webb is awesome.
This is not too surprising, as I stated in a previous post, a 3:46 miler should be able to run at least a 1:44x 800m. In fact, I expect Webb to run even faster in subsequent 800s.
Most world-class milers are either good 800m or 5k guys as well, however there have only been a hand full of guys who were good at all 3.
I would say that by most people standards he is now "officially" favored to win Gold in Osaka.
Fastest 1500m time in the world this year, fastest mile time
fastest 800m time out of those running the 1500
fastest 10000m PR out those running the 1500
undefeated this year in 1500/mile
He is as hot as you can get right now.

Really? Tell me, how many American Records has Webb established in comparison to Prefontaine?
I didn't think so.
This makes Webb #8 AT on the US 800 list.
If he can improve his 3k and run a 1000 and 2000, he'll be among the top 10 Americans in every even from 800 - 10000 meters (aside from the steeple).
i have billy mills and steve prefontaine posters in my room. i think my kids are going to have alan webb posters in theirs. this guy is now officially a monster.
A couple of years and Webb will smoke KB due to superior speed
and improved strength.
legat and mottram beat him in the mile/1500 twice this year.
great pr for webb 2 seconds doesn't come easy in the 800
Webb might be the most talented US athlete ever (all sports included). As I consider the 1500m the most competitive sports event, runners from the poorest countries match up against the richest. 1500m/mile is the average man's event, you need speed and you need endurance 50/50. Most people got little of both.
Tennis, Golf, swimming and cycling are big sports as well, but equipment, money and knowledge are much more important for success. That leaves the majority out of competition.
2 words: Michael Jordan. Until Alan Webb totally redefines how his sport of choice is played and stands head and shoulders above anyone in the world, you can't crown him with the title "most talented US athlete ever (all sports included)."

Why even stick that in at the end of the post? This kid ran 3:53 while in HS. That was 4 years ago. Aftern a longer stretch of healhty training these times are to be expected from someone with that sort of natural talent.
Actually, it was 6 years ago, but I agree with your post. There is nothing unusual about the fastest hs miler in U.S. history now holding the AR 6 years later. Isn't that what people expected him to do?
BS...he has the Webb mentality. Don{t you get it yet_ This is new era, the Webb era. Pre couldn{t hold a candle to Webb.Sorry for punctuation errors LR pedants, but I{m in Mexico using some weird keyboard.

To date, 2nd fastest 800 time in the world!! It's almost as if he is back in high school; running against sub-par competition. His frame-of-mind is completely different now. He has the "Pre" mentality. It's as if when he steps on the track, his statement to the rest of field is "F**K YOU ALL!! I'm going to kick all your asses!!" Amazing turn-around. I only hope he is doing it "cleanly."
By the way, does anyone have his 400 meter splits?
Ummm, how many ARs could Pre establish in our era. Hmm, yeah, that{s what I thought...NONE. AR in our era is a hell of lot, and as far as I can tell, Pre never ran as fast as Webb in ANY event.

Basketball is only for a small selective group of people. People with normal height got no opportunity to do well in this sport, although there are some exceptions.
Webb 1:43.84 - 3:30.54 - 3:46.91- 7:39.28 - 13:10.86 - 27:34.72
Pre 1:54.3 - 3:38.1 - 3:54.6 - 7:44.2- 13:21.9 – 27:43.6
no, not even close.
and please don't try to sell pre's AR's at 3miles, and 5000m, and 6 miles and 10000m . . .
not even close.
I find it funny that within the week there was a thread discussing Webb's lack of leg speed which in turn led to his inability to kick. Even funnier will be when those same people find some way to trash Webb performance here. Sometimes I get the feeling people would still call him slow even if he ran 1:40 because he hadn't won a gold medal.
