All you youngsters who keep asking the Men from Back in the Day for the secrets, go read this. If you can't get there from my crappy link-pasting, here are the essentials:
"Many coaches say it's unwise for a high school runner to log 100 miles in a week because it increases the chances of injury and mental burnout."
Really? Or maybe this is what happens:
Run inconsistently, and not very far--3200 PR of 9:52
Run 100 miles per week for two summers, and be consistent during the year--3200 PR of 9:08 and 5000 PR of 14:39 as a junior in high school
Hit the roads, jack...
