There is much more to the Moen leaving Hansons than is and will ever be posted here. They parted on good terms. Just leave it at he (Moen) has some other things going on in his life which are a much greater priority.

Who in the hell are Hansens?
you're right. he may know more than running, but how would we know if we cant communicate with him? and explain how he passes required english lanquage courses without speaking english?no, I never tried to study science and math in swahili. i would definately want to learn swahili before i attempted to move to Africa and study there.how many languages do I speak? 3 (if you count asl) i run a small business and at one time had a spanish only speaking mexican and a hearing impaired employee on the same job. talk about a stressful day at work...

"all he knows is running." He has lived in at least 3 countries and speaks about 5 languages and you say all he knows is running.
How many languages do you speak? Ever tried studying science or math in swahili? Give it a shot and then come back and talk about what the kid does or does not know. He's already seen/done more in life than you have and is undoubtedly going a lot further.
You escorts do a great job--you do make it easier to spot the top female runners in the crowd. Are there quailifications to becoming a pacer? Do you switch flags if your runner is passed or switch runners?
What if you were a teenager and didn't really have much of a say in the mater of where yo wound up living because adults were making all of the calls for you (as the article above confirms)?
Who says he does not speak English? Have you spoken with him? Maybe he does not speak it as well as someone for whom it is a native language, but it is not difficult to understand why? Maybe he's in an ESL program and receives the support ESL teachers with his mainstream classes? Or do you think he's part of some huge plot to bring African runners into US high schools and take away varsity spots from US high school runners?
i dont know the answers to what you are asking. I do know this; I know some really good athletes right here in the USA that could not compete for their high schools because they could not pass english. they spoke much better english than Girma does.
why couldn't they get help?
i'm sure he's a fine student.
I don't think are any formal qualifications. There is a guy in charge of sorting it out, and he usually puts out the word in May for volunteers. It's mostly ATC folks (half the competitive team this year!) that volunteer. The obvious idea is that you have to be able to keep up with the person you are escorting, which when those girls are kicking it in for serious prize money can be easier said than done.
The escort and his flag stays with the position, not the female. Everyone usually gets a bit of TV time. The crowds usually go mental if you encourage them.
