Gus Macker?
"He completed a distance equal to the total of five marathons, just one shy of the record."
So close, just on marathon short, but it doesn't matter because his resting heart rate is 39 bpm.
check out the link:
thanks for bringing up the HR part, hadn't seen that...

Yeah, well I just went down to the high school track and ran 100m at a 2:00 marathon pace. It was easy. Paul Tergat is a wimp.
It's fine to dislike the hype around Dean (although I think that USTAF could learn something about promoting its stars from him) but let's not be idiots in the process.
Note: Paul Tergat is not a wimp.
you're an idiot, that joke just went right over your head
It's Dean K's revenge or something, because the board is now packed with (mainly) accelerade ads.
what really kinda bugs me about Dean is that I think he is envied by no one. If I had one wish about running it would be to go faster. Does anyone out there really wish it was THEIR name holding the 24 hour treadmill record, and not, say, the record for thee 5000, or the marathon?
This is not to say there's nothing to admire about him, though. It's just that to be called 'America's Greatest Runner,' when no runner would trade places with him, and that he doesn't REFUSE the 'title,' shows we live in topsy-turvey times.
Would I prefer to be the WR holder at 5000m instead of the WR holder for the 24-hour run? Yes.
But would I prefer to be the WR holder for the 24-hour run instead of being some random 16min 5k runner who occasionally wins a $50 gift certificate at the local fun runs??? The answer is also "Yes".

if you can run a 16 minute 5k than more than likely you can out run dean at any distance.
he is not great at anything other than marketing himself.
he is not even great in a sub catagory of running called ultras. i would imagine if scott jurek ran 24 hours on the dreadmill he would get the record easily. that guy is a stud.
that RW forum is pretty annoying. Mostly the part where they have a list of all their upcoming races and whatever that is longer than their damn post.
And a highlight from the bit of the thread I could get through: someone asking about the other people on the treadmills next to him, "A pacer?"
no, it was not a pacer, the pacer he has is the big thing he is running on top of.
They are all so freaking positive, it makes me sick.
Dean K must be pissing himself if ever he logs on to Lets run. Why don't people just forget about him. For sure being America's "Greatest runner" or whatever is way over the top. But the more times people get worked up about him, the more conceited he'll be.
Y R U surprised? Americans believe anything and everything they R told

Here we go again.... "America's Best Runner" ha ha ha ha
I am going to vomit.
The list of boycotted products just got longer.
So what if the media makes him out to be the "Worlds Best Runner". He'll eventually run out of things to do and the media will forget about him. It's not like he's a 4 hour marathoner or some weekend hacker. He's run around (or under?) 3:00 for a marathon. That's not horrible. He runs a lot so the media uses that. The media, and most people in general, just don't care about our sport. They care about hopping in a local 5k for recreation, but don't care so much about what happens in the front. 11,000 people went to watch a minor league ball game in Indy. 7,000 went to watch track. This is in Indy, home to USATF. If you really want his madness to stop then quit posting 300 post threads about him and what he's doing. Otherwise you're just adding to it. If you really want to stop it, then do what he's doing, but do it faster. Go find some charity to raise awareness for, contact your local media outlets, and just do it. Go run for 24 hours, go run 50 marathons in 50 days, show him up. Good luck.
DEAN LOVES these threads. He is getting 300+ posts for this! He is an attention-seeking personality. He gets more attention than anyone at USATF ever would. Money in the bank, baby!
Anyone else curious as to how fast he could run a marathon if he trained to run it fast? Has he tried to do this before?
