NO FIVE-ALIVE
Five alive means 5 people are always active in trying to clear a height. Once someone clears or misses, another is added to the rotation until all have cleared/missed and the bar goes up. Apparently, they will not be using five alive at USATF.
I've seen 5-alive done two different ways. This is how I would run it for the HJ entries.

END OF ROUND 1
Now, you actually abandon 5-alive when a certain number of competitors are remaining (USATF less than 12, NCAA less than 9) but I just used it all the way through to give an idea how it worked. As you can see, some jumpers would be making their third attempt at a height while others are only taking their first attempt.
