For the 1500 they accept the mile to get in to USA's, but they do not seem to accept mile times that are provisional; even though, they equate to faster than some of the provisional 1500 times.

No actually they are not...
According to the IAAF scoring table. 3:59.20 mile is equivalent to a 3:41.64 1500. While 3:42.02 1500 is equivalent to a 3:59.61 mile. So according to IAAF they are not worth more.
And Boldon actually also ran an open 3:41.99 1500m for good measure, no way he should be left of the entry list either way. Nice job once again USATF.

Deepest year for the 1500 since before 2003 and they take the least that they have taken. 2006-29 2005-31 2004-30.
The guys that they leave out are the guys who aren't getting sponsored and need that opportunity to compete against the top guys. This is hurting our sport more than helping.
They took 36 in the 800 despite field size being limited to 24 or even 30 in an Olympic year. Who is making these decisions. The same things can be said for the 5k. Lets give these guys a chance and see what they can do. They earned the opportunity.

USATF has a mile standard to get into the 1500m so why would it be anyones fault other than usatf.
USATF should of only made an A standard for the mile. The provisional time for the mile was obviously pointless.
Look at it this way as well. The 3:42.04 is .84 seconds away from the 1500 A standard. There were a few people .84 sec away from the mile A standard of 3:59.00. It seem none of these people would make the team, but neither will any of the guys 3:40 or higher likely make the team. They should just be fair on who they let in.
