They have been my favorite band for about 7 years now. I only wished I had a chance to see them live. It's a big shame they broke up.
Absolutely...quality stuff.
They split into two separate bands...The Mars Volta and Sparta.
I haven't listened to Sparta much, but the Mars Volta have some incredible stuff. Definitely nothing like At The Drive In though. The first album, "De-Loused in the Comatorium" was produced by Rick Rubin, and is probably the easiest on the ear. The albums after that were, I believe, self-produced and get pretty far out there. Still great if you like experimental music.
The Mars Volta is better; at least De-loused in the Comatorium was.
Good band! I passed on the chance to see them live once and soon after they broke up. Shame on me - I always heard they were a great live show.
Mars Volta has gone downhill fast since DeLoused. That album was classic, the rest have been them trying too hard.
great band, i think someone or maybe a few of the guys from at the drive in might be in defacto? not sure. anywho... a real sad story about them braking up.
be T dub breaking, not braking
Sparta is very good as well, I have all three of their albums. Their new album "Threes" is good. I also like mars volta too. There latest album was out there but i dug it.
Sparta is the best of the three bands.
Their live show was out of hand. I saw them right after In/Casino/Out in a small club in Green Bay with maybe 500 other people. Insane! Lots of energy. Probably the best show I've ever seen.
bump
Actually listening to ATDI right now. I actually thought De-loused was one of the best albums to come out in years, but I agree that somehow they've just lost it in their next two albums. They are extremely talented. I think Sparta is a lot more poppy and way less ambitious.
