I was curious how the bodies of different people at different ages and of different sex responded to high mileage when they tried it. Heres my experience summed up:
year one(18): avg 55 MPW, max of 65. no strict base training phase. I went basically right into one interval session (hard) and one tempo day and a long run that consisted of 13 miles at MOST. Usual week was around 9 or 10 runs.
September 8k time: 29:12
end of training 10k: 36:18
year two(19):avg 70, max of 84. still not much of a strict base training phase. Same as last year but I ran more and usually did 11-12 runs per week (singles on the weekend). Long run maybe hit 15 or so.
September 8K time: 27:51
end of training 10k: 33:46
year three(20) avg 85, max of 105. More aerobic development but I didn't even hit the 90's until August so the numbers are kind of misleading. Long run of 18 on two occasions and 16-17 miles a few times as well. 12 runs per week and sometimes more...
September 8K time: 28:30
end of training 10k: 33:24
year four(21) avg 90+ max 100(planned). This is my current year and I'm am at about 85 miles this week all in singles. My long run has been 22 and its all been easy running so far with an avg HR of around 143-145. This is so much tougher than running 100 miles per week in doubles...I hope this will drastically help my 10k time.
I just want to see how some more "average runners" like myself have responded to their training.
