I agree. Kris pushes too hard too much. But I think it will happen. He's not stupid.

Eastern is a blue collar program with a blue collar coach. Coach Welch has earned the respect of everyone in the northwest over the past 10 years. He is a no-bullshit guy and that's what he expects of his athletes. Show up, work your ass off, nutt-up on race day, and accept the results.

Oh, and whoever is judging xc teams based on times on courses they no nothing about is just illustrating for all of us what a no-talent ass clown they are. Nice work.

NAIA should be interesting this year, doesn't seem to be a totally dominant team with Life gone. Eastern is very solid, but they'll be much better next year when they get 3 of their top 4 back off of a redshirt year.

You know the great thing is that every year eastern orgegon comes on here and says oh boy we are good watch out. I got an idea for ya why dont you let your legs do the talking because most years you choke on race day, not nut up. Plus most of the guys on the team dont even come close to touching early season prs. So finish in the top 3 then talk shit lata gator

EOU runners have NEVER gotten on here and said, "oh boy we are good watch out." We have better grammar than that.

EOU's xc coach is not new. He's been there for about twelve years and in that time he has taken a dormant program to nationals ten times for men and five times for women. The women had never qualified before his arrival. The women have placed in the top ten four times with the highest finish being third. The men have also placed in the top ten four times with the highest finish being sixth(twice). They have also had at least one All-American in cross country(11) from 1993-2000. Not only that, last year's men's team was recognized as the NAIA's top academic performing team at the NAIA Championships. Although 2001 was a disappointment for the cross-country team, no one on the team is on scholarship unless it's academic. These men and women run for love of the sport and leave the program still loving the sport and with the knowledge that if they still want to compete, they can only get better. "Burnout" is not in their vocabulary. Sean Williams didn't break 17:00 in high school and ran under 14:30 last year. If that doesn't speak volumes about the coaching I don't know what does.

EOU does not boast of their #1 ranking. They make it common knowledge to all the NAIA raters that three of their top four runners are red-shirting. If the coaches around the country want to rank them #1, that's their business. It's a program that is continually growing and gaining respect.

As an alum, I can only say that running for coach Welch was a great experience and one that I wouldn't change for the world. He was the only college coach to give me a chance and it was worthwhile.

So let's end this thread and move on to topics that aren't so negative.

It's just good that people are giving a damn about the NAIA. And we can pretty much pronounce everybody's name on the two top ranked teams (Eastern OR and Minot)

EOU is a top notch program...From what I understand they think the #1 ranking is a bit high for them...The course the ran at McIver park is a bit slower then a normal 8k...it is on un-even terrain and the grass is kind of long. These times will be faster for them at Willamette invite. This team deserves respect..as for #1 we shall see..What are rankings anyway??? They are an arbitrary attempt to try and figure out what teams are doing across the nation who never see each other for the most part. Simon Fraser supposedly has some injured guys and this is why they finished poorly at Sundodger. I hope this is not the case for my team though because we beat them and are ranked lower then they are in the rankings. And our #1 runner ran his race as if he was jogging it. The region #1 confernce in the NAIA is a strong conference. They have the possibilibty of seniding five teams to the national championships (EOU, UBC, Simon Fraser, Warner Pacific, & Lewis and Clark State). This is nearly 25% of the teams invited. EOU is probably the top in this region which would put themin the top 3 in the nation. HOw they preform at Nationals will have to been seen in 2 months...a long time form now...Give them some respect though..they deserve it.

It ain't over and we haven't even run with all our guys yet. Don't be surprised if an unranked team mixes it up. We'll be there to challenge along with 7 other great teams. A lot can happen and usually does.
