Headed out for lunch at my local Chick-fil-A near lunch and I see at least nine cars at the drive thru idling along, placing orders, air conditioning blazing, waiting to grab their food and run. The parking lot is basically empty with spots right near the front door to run in and get out. But nobody takes advantage of that which leads me to conclude that Americans are basically lazy.
Studies have been done on this, and the reason Americans don't get out of their cars and would rather eat in their cars has little to do with laziness.
I've heard the results of these study several times on television and radio, so no I don't have a link for you.
Three main reasons:
1) Americans love their cars and would rather be in them than not.
2) Americans are becoming increasingly non-social and would rather be alone during their lunch hour than have to deal with people.
3) Americans love information and entertainment and would rather listen to music or talk radio in their cars than sit in a fast food restaurant. They can also talk on their cell phones in their cars and have privacy or feel that they are bothering others.
