I'm looking for some hip strengthening exercises for my athletes, links and/or pictures would be appreciated.
I have some ideas in mind, sideways walking with a theraband tubes comes to mind, but not everyone those handy. Side leg lifts are not very functional.
Thanks!
Ummm, that strengthens the lateral glutes, which in most athletes (and distance runners in particular) are extemely OVERACTIVE and tight.
As far as hip extensors are concerned, real DEEP box squats, deadlifts, RDLs, Lunges are what are needed. Most athletes (you would hope) have anterior pelvic tilts which means strengthening the posterior chain is essential.
Seriously though, if you are not a strength coach you really aren't qualified to do strength and conditioning stuff. Find one or become one. If your in college you should have one and they will know what to do.
Not to be PC but nothing makes me more mad when my OWN sport comes in and the coach with all their "wisdom" can't coach the bench press the right way while I can't really get a good job yet because I "don't have enough experience." Not to mention watching athletes get destroyed. What a waste of all that education and talent.
