There has been a couple instances in which athletes I coach have been disqualified or given a warning for pacing another athlete.
In both instances the pacer have been of far greater ability to that of the athlete being paced. As a result the pacer has provided encouragement & instruction throughout the race. In no way has the two athletes disrupted another athlete.
The officials contention is the encouragement and instruction is excessive. In the official words, "you can't blatanly appear to be pacing an athlete. I realize pacing is allowed...
Is there a line that can be drawn? Is this breaking official regulations?
