The issue of boycotting the Beijing Olympics in 2008 is definitely out there. In the Democratic debate tonight (Sunday), Gov. Bill Richardson and Sen. John Edwards indicated that they would support a boycott of the Beijing Olympics to put pressure on China to put pressure on the Sudan.
First, do they honestly think the rest of the world would join a US boycott of the Olypmics... especially with what we've managed to do with Iraq?
Second, do they honestly think that a boycott of the Olympics (regardless of how many countries would join a boycott) would pressure China so much to solve the Dafar crisis? That's a pretty weak and indirect way of dealing with Dafur isn't it? (especially compared to the reason for the 1980 boycott of Moscow... the USSR itself had invaded a country... not that I agreed with that boycott decision)
