Yeah. He's worse than John Walker Lindh, Robert Hanssen, and Benedict Arnold put together.
I think we should shoot him.
Not to be crass, but there was already another thread with 40-odd posts about this very subject. Your post would have been a good one to add there. Actually, there are a couple of threads floating around in which you can express your thoughts on Lassiter.
As I said on the other thread, I see nothing wrong with Lassiter's actions. He couldn't have won nor could he have scored. He did the next best thing: he returned the favor to someone who has helped him over the past year. Dishonorable? I don't think so.

First I would like to say that I don't agree with what Seneca did in the World Cup. There may be a reason behind
his madness:
1) Repay Benard for his help (training).
2) Repay the favor before the 2003 Worlds or 2004 Olympics
3) He wanted to feel the pace of his future competitions
and do 1 and 2 at the same time!
4) He thought he was in sub 3:30 shape, but boy was he
wrong! LOL
Honestly I think it was very selfish of Seneca but think
about the above reasons and it may make alittle more sense!

While Lassiter is in the repaying mood, how about the US team for his travel/food/housing/spending per diem expenses?
Would everyone rather Seneca foul up (repay Benard) now
or in the 2003 Worlds or 2004 Olympics, because its very
likey he will make one or both teams?

God, don't you just hate to see this happen in a meet as big and as important as the WORLD CUP. A meet that was almost cancelled a few years ago? A meet that Lagat points to as HIS FOCUS, because he couldn't win anything else that counted this year, because Hicham was always there giving him the bitch slap. Get over it. It is a second rate meet, at the end of a long season. But if you still need closure, I suggest an anger management therapist.
Oooh BIG MEET! wrote:

If the meet wasn't important enough for him to score some points or at least attempt to then turn the slot down.
He owes the team an apology.
What do you mean "nor could he have scored" you dimwit??? Every place scores at the World Cup, nimrod.
If you don't see anything wrong with what he allegedly did, you have a very warped set of values.
what did he do
It doesn't matter how big the World Cup is or isn't, or what Lassiter supposedly owed Lagat. By accepting a spot on the U.S. team, he agrees to try and score as many points as possible for that team. Based on the field and the times, it looks like fourth place was realistic for him.
There's really no other way to look at this. When you're a team athlete, your primary mission is NOT to help a member of another team. Isn't that clear enough?

Thought the U.S. was about freedom? Sure doesn't sound that way any more.
With freedom comes responsibility.

Another clueless idiot
I agree that this meet is second rate...that is why it is coming to US in 2006.
With freedom also comes honesty. If he felt the need to help Lagat he has every right to, as long as he made USATF aware of his intentions prior to accepting the position on the team. I understand that he apologized afterward which doesn't sound like he made them aware before. So if Seneca's action were something that he believed in, he should have screamed from the highest mountain "I AM GOING TO SERVE THE ROLE OF THE RABBIT FOR LAGAT BECAUSE I HAVE THE FREEDOM TO DO WHATEFER THE HELL I WANT." He didn't do that which makes him a thief (stealing from usatf) and dishonest (making believe he was going to give an honest effort) and disloyal to his country (as many would have served the same role more honorably).
well someone needs to steal back from USATF!!!!!! If that is what you want to call it.
lets be real, I know it's a team meet but the world cup just isnt that important. It's not exactly the olympics
Thanks for representing americas distance running hope!! (note sarcasm)
