Former prep record holders and distance stars Gerry Lindgren and Jeff Nelson think today's high schoolers need more training mileage. "Anyone running 9 minutes was doing 100 mpw in the 70's,", says Nelson of his days as national recordsetter in the 2 mile.
Offers Lindren, who made the Olympic team as a prep, "Mileage gave me strong legs and let me do what I did".

I wonder if Malmo ran 100 mile weeks in high school, when he won the State 2 mile in 9:10? I can't say I am a big proponent of 100 mpw for high schoolers; college, yes, but not sure about high school. (maybe for prodigys like Lindgren and Nelson but most kids can't hold up to that level)
