I don't qualify but ran 2:32:00 and 2:33:30. I was running 1:08:30 for the half and 31:00 10K.
The marathon does strange things to you between 18 and 22 miles.
Not my race I guess.

I've between 2:28 and 2:30 a few times.
I've never broken 1:11:00 (1:11:20 PR) for the half or 32:00 (32:28) for 10K.
1:09:58/2:29:13.
I broke 2:30 before I broke 1:10.
Focus on long runs and tempo runs of 6-16miles and maintaining 100 miles a week.

yes lots of variety to bet boredom of running 100 miles per week. Include long 20m sunday runs, tempo weekly with hills and some fartlek sessions.
Team mate did 1.12.30 for half last week.

70:30 / 2:27hi... the half was also on a fast course. Agree with much said above. Learn to like distance and tempo runs. 5:40pace is not very quick - requiring a little bit of endurance (LT pushed up a little) and not so much by way of great mile repeat workouts.
