In a few weeks I'll be moving from Ohio to Golden, CO to train for the summer. According to a quick Google search, I found that Golden is located at an elevation of 5,674 feet. Obviously, since I've never experienced altitude, this elevation will challenge me, but would 6, or 7-thousand feet do more for me physiologically? Is there a significant difference between 5.5k and 6.5k feet? If so, should I commute to higher elevations a few times per week while I'm there to train?
I've recently read posts about Ryan Hall training at specific elevations (3,000, 4,000, 5,000, 6,000, etc.) for different workouts. Could anyone give me an idea of what kind of runs and/or workouts to do at different distances? Or would just staying at 5.5k in Golden be more than enough to allow me to reap the benefits of altitude?
