How come whenever i read or see a HBO special about the 1984 Olympics in the 3000 where Slaney fell (or got tripped depending on your view) it implies that she automatically would have run the race had that not happened? The winning time was by some Rumanian woman who ran like a 8:30ish time, which was Slaney's PR at the time. Also Budd went on to set the world record the following year and would have been there too had she not been practically booed off the track and lost her compusure. Is it possible that Slaney would have won? Of course, but is it a certainty? I would say no...she wasnt truly dominant in her event like say Michael Johnson in the 400, she was a top tier runner for sure, but not dominant.
