That's true, Who would buy them!!
I met one guy who has worn them, and he was an acrobat in a circus, he swears by the springs.
If the IAAF wants to ban these shoes, why not ban Nike Shox also?
I believe Shawn Crawford used the Nike Spike to win his Athens 2004 Gold medal.
I mean it's the same concept isn't it? To give the runner a return of energy.
Nike (Shox) spike
How long until they ban those new Newtons?
I wore Spira shoes this morning and in my last three road races. They feel no different to me than any other good shoes. The uppers fit me. So I like them. Regardless of technology: the old saying holds, "If the shoe fits....." And also, "There is no free lunch."
The springs are another means of cushioning. I think they may last longer than EVA or PU foam, but the rest of the shoe is made of the same stuff as all the others shoes so it may not matter if the durability of the cushioning system out wears the rest of the shoe.

How could Shox help a sprinter at all? I mean, unless you heel strike in the 200 a lot...

Could the shox on that do anything but be heavy?
I guess we could both agree that it's a pointless spike.
I bought some Spira's a ways back at the retail store they have in the Airport in El Paso, Tx. Worst pair of shoes, by a mile, that I have ever had. They caused my right hip to hurt. I foolishly kept using them for about 100 miles thinking they would be better after I broke them in. Wrong. 5 Weeks of physical therapt to correct my problem.
My wife bought some Spira walking shoes as well. She read they would be good for her sciatic problems. Wrong again.
These are by far the worst shoes ever created. Ok wait I can’t say that because there is some simple science involved. However this whole law suit is an attempt to not end up out of business. They don’t really have anything viable for the market and they need to create a buzz. This will give them some publicity and I'm sure they hope they will get a bump in there sales.
I recently saw these things in the Mile Marker/Sporthill catalog and couldn’t believe they were in there. Not that I don’t think a small company can make a shoe, the Newton Running thing looks interesting, but the fact of the matter is that the shoes have to look good and work to sell. These things are heinous and should be banned just for that fact. I think what the hell let folks run in them if they want. If you want to set a standard like golf does on the spring effect then do so for all shoes and make everyone apply. The Shox from Nike suck as well and are a complete waist of money. I bought some at the employee store in Beaverton and the rubber on the bottom separated from the shoe in the first few weeks. I never ran a step in them because it's way to much shoe, but unfortunately most running idiots in this country buy more shoe then they need hence the reason the shoe guys can put out $185 shoes for runners put in 20 miles a week or less.
i have been wearing the del sol for over a year and can say they are as good as any shoe i have ever worn..unbelievable cushioning.
