I would think that you could definitely run under 5:30 - maybe even close to 5:20 on a good day. Your 3:50 1200 actually indicates a time somewhat faster than that but it all depends on how strong you are and whether you can hold that type of pace for a mile.

I agree with SU on what your 3:50 would indicate. However, if you haven't done anything much faster than 2:55/800 pace in the last several weeks, you may find that the *skill* of running at a sustained ~80/400 pace is lacking. However, that skill will return very fast, typically with just another race or two (or three).

The first race of the season can be frustrating: you hit the finish line (perhaps with a somewhat disappointing time) and two minutes later, you're completely recovered and really kicking yourself for not having pushed harder in the race. No--you pushed as hard as you could; you just didn't have the racing sharpness yet to get everything out of yourself. It's paradoxical, but you have to have really great racing fitness to be truly exhausted when you hit the finish line!

Also the wind can be a huge factor this time of year in outdoor. I'd say 5:25-5:30 if no wind and good competition. You will start lowering that quickly though based on that 3:50 for 1200. That's a heck of a time for indoors.

ya i ran 3:43 in a 1200 my freshman year and ended up with a 5:06 1600 that year...so..id say 5:10-5:20

I'd be surprised if she ran that fast based on that workout.... 5x800m at 6-min mile pace?? That's not indicative of much, even with the fairly short rest. But she hasn't given us much to work with, so I guess I can't be sure. The 3:50 1200m is more impressive... that's like 1:17 laps? I'd say 5:20 would be the fastest she could expect based on those times.

I did another tune up workout yesterday. 10X200 with 200 jog rest. 30,30,30,29,30,29,28,28.5,27.3,26.0

Felt real relaxed and comfortable. Put on spikes for the last three. A little wind on the backstretch too. What do you guys still think?

Either you don\'t know how long a 200m is, or this is a troll. 26 flat at the end of a workout for a high school girl? If you really could do that, you\'d be a nationally ranked sprinter. Try again.

LOL! I would say plan to break the national record! I ran 16x200 in around 28-30 along with some decent aerobic work and ran 4:27! So good luck! Oh, and mine also felt "real relaxed and comfortable." So no problem there.

Did the classic 10x400 run with a minute rest. Got 65,65,66,64,64,67,66,67,63,63. What do you think I can get now?
