Which is the best know uni for 800m in the USA?? Which has the best coach?
Kansas State does a great job of getting a bunch of mid-d guys to run fast (7:20 4x8 two years ago, Christian Smith is an alumnus), but their coach is also a dick.
University of Northern Iowa. UNI has a plethora of 1:49-150.
is that the same as Iowa university that is in the Big 12??
Texas Tech
azusa pacific university.
ORU and nova ran fast 4x8's last year
Well I know it's not Ohio University...
bellarmine university has some good 800 guys.........o no they dont have any good guys, my bad..
Male or Female? Best 800/middle distance coach is JJ Clark at Tenn.
Male 800m and 1500m not cross country. The best University with top facilities and a good tradition of producing top 800m runners??? I dont have a clue where to start looking! any idea? Thanks
Northern Iowa- qualified 2 runners(1:49)for the NCAA championships- also has 3 other runners that have run 1:50-1:51 this year. Dorian Ulrey ran 4:09/1:53 in high school last year- he has run 4:02/1:51 this year indoors already. 2 other 1500 runners were 4:18/4:24 in high school and have run 4:08/4:12. Joey Woody was an 800m all american as well.
Wisconsin- nothing more needs to be said. Loads of 4:00 milers.
Oklahoma- Martin Smith over the years has produced some very good results with kids with above average-but not exceptional high school credential(Agger brothers)
Stanford- 2 sub 4:00 milers this year, good luck getting in.
Michigan
Northern Iowa (UNI) is in the Missouri Valley Conference-MVC. Solid mid-major conference. The whole conference has had some real solid 800/1500 kids in the past few years. Wilberts, Fife, Bolden, Girtz Azis, Tripp, Doherty, Bronco Meeks, Lots of UNI guys.
Azusa Pacific has turned many halfway decent 800 guys in hs to sub 1:50 guys... Tim Ramirez, Brandon Shaw, Danny Reid... also many other guys who are currently still on the roster.
Historically Georgetown. Take a look at the times/accomplishments of their guys--Kenah, world champ indoor+ outdoor medal 1:43+ pr, Holman-1:45, Bryan Woodward NCAA champ, Jesse O'Connell NCAA runnerup, Lukezic 3:33 1500 1:46 relay split--also numerous Penn Relays 4X800 titles + record times.
They are a little down this yr from theirr normal std but have a bunch of young guys and are making 800 recruitment a priority.
if you are loking for a place to train with some good 800m runner, then you have to consider the University of Missouri. Its a good school, great team, no need to name drop, just take a look at their top 5-10 list both indoors and out. Also the Big 12 Conference is the best conference for mid distance running, Take a look at Texas, Colorado, Missouri, Kansas. Just to name a few.
Seton Hall
University of Washington has 2 in the NCAA indoor final tomorrow. Also a true freshman at 1:50.1 and a 5th year guy at 1:51 who has run 1:50. Two sub 1:50 800 runners also graduated last year. Ryan Brown was the NCAA div 1 outdoor nationals champ last year in 146.x
