I've been noticing some pain above my right calf. It's right below my knee but on the backside of my leg. It really started to bug me on the hills today. What could it be?

I did 10 miles on Sunday and then felt a pain in the same place the following day. It's strange. My first instinct was to say calf, but it's not in the calf per se. It's more the back of the knee as you say. I'm backing off for probably a week. Going to spend the time in the gym and maybe do some very short barefoot running in a few days. Let me know if anyone gives you a name of a condition or an anatomy lesson.
Yeah does anyone have a clue of what this pain could be? I was thinking maybe it's a strained muscle or torn muscle but would like some opinions on what you think it might be.
IT band maybe?
i had the same thing about two weeks ago. it hurt in the back of the knee, and then extended down into the upper calf. i went to an orthopedic surgeon and he said it was a strained plantaris/soleus. i'm taking 2 weeks off and doing some stretching/exercises that he advised. it seems to be doing the job. if you do indeed have the same problem as i do, you should be ok with some decent rest, ice, and stretching. good luck.
Well I ran 8 miles yesterday and afterwards it felt terrible. I thought if I put some bayer cream on it and took care of it the next morning it wouldn't be there but I woke up this morning and the pain is so bad it's hard to walk and not only that but the left side of my back hurts too. So I got pains on the right side of my leg and left side of my back and they came out of nowhere because I have been feeling just fine.
get a massage. u probly have a combo of tight calves and hamstrings. people seem to underestimate the value of regular massage in preventing injuries.
Are you calves tight or sore as well? Sounds like something I've had a few times, where a calf injury causes secondary injury (can be worse) just up the leg. If you continue to compensate, can generate injuries all over. Rest and cross train a couple of days, start back running and walking interspersed. Run/walk always does it for calf problems for me, very hard to just start up running again.
No my calves feel fine. I did some searching on the web for strained plantaris and it basically describes my injury. I'm kind of relieved because the pain is pretty bad but it says that a couple of days off with some icing should be alright. I'm also going to walk with some crutches so I can keep all the weight I can off of it.
if you do this, you could be up and running the next day
TAKE ibuprofin every 4-5 hours...maybe one or two tablets
during the day, put a heel elevator in ur shoe
take any soft item...or bandage..roll it up into a ball then put it in the heel part of ur shoe..so ur heel is elevated
this reduces the stretching in ur back leg
try it it works
I want to make sure that this thing is completely healed. I don't want to come back and have it mess up on me again.
What could it be? It COULD be time to go to a f***ing doctor.
