Does anyone know what ever became of the following NC high school distance running state champs:
Musa(sp?) Williams
Paul Carpenter
David Honea
Francine Dumas
Also whatever happened to NC child prodigy: Amanda Horn?

Anyone?
I think Honea went to NC State
Carpenter was at Brevard College briefly
Did Dumas go to Chapel Hill?
Someone told me Musa went to Duke?
What ever happened to "The Colonel" Jimmy Sanders of Sun Valley High School. He had a dynasty going for awhile then disappeared.
Will Hodges...went to Cumberland College. At the time was a top NAIA school.
Brookshire, Haas, Elder, Wilkins
Yea Hodges was the begining of the Watauga power house that would stand for about 6 years between 1994-2000
I actually saw "The Colonel" at a Southern Conference Track Meet officiating in the early 2000's. No clue after that.
SVHS!!!
honea had a successful career at nc state, lived and ran out of raleigh for a long time and is now an assitant coach at watauga high school
brookshire won an acc track title for nc state but his running career ended when he tore his achilles
haas just finished up a very successful career at indiana and is still running well
elder ran for 4 years at wake forest
wilkins didn't last a year at nc state. something to do with the university requiring students to attend class.
From T.C. Roberson High School's Cross Country website (Asheville, NC):
"Sara-Vance Goodman – 1996 Foot Locker Southeast Champion, 1996 Foot Locker Nationals 9th, 1998 NCAA D1 Cross Country All American (12th O.A., first freshman finisher), 1998 NCAA D1 Cross Country team champion (Villanova), 1999 NCAA D1 Indoor Track All American. 16:12 5000M P.R.
Francine Dumas – 1991 NCAA D1 Outdoor Track All-American. 16:21 5000M P.R., 1987 NCAA D1 Cross Country team runner-up (N.C. State).
Paul Carpenter – 1987 JUCO Cross Country All American. 1986 and 1987 JUCO Cross Country team champions (Brevard Junior College)."
I was a freshman in high school (different school) when Sarah Vance Goodman was a senior and distinctly remember trying not to get beat by her in several 3200's since they always ran guys and girls together.
And I could be wrong, but I believe Francine Dumas is now Francine Carpenter, married to Steve Carpenter and they both coach at T.C. Roberson High School (consistently one of the best in the state). NC Native, are you from WNC, or just coincidence that the names you dropped derive from Asheville?

Actually I am from Hendersonville, just down the road. I competed against Honea mainly. Carpenter was a senior when I was a freshman.
I had heard a rumor that Francine and Steve got married, just never was able to confirm it.
Where exactly is Sun Valley? Having grown up in the Greensboro area back in the mid-80s (John Erickson era at Southeast), I'd heard of Sun Valley, but never knew where it was. I just assumed it was in the west.
Sun Valley was (maybe still is) a 3A school near charlotte.
3 seconds + google =
After "The Colonel" Jimmy Sanders got fired from Sun Valley he ended up coaching at UNCW for a few years before he got fired there too.
He was a manager for Omega Sports, but he may have been fired from that too after some of his former Sun Valley Athletes picketted in front of one store he was working at.
David Honea also had 15 minutes of non-running fame with his appearance (and subsequent "controversy") on "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire".
David Honea was awesome, I remember that...

He was charged with doing inappropriate things with athletes including taking pictures in various stages of undress. He quit to avoid further investigation by authorities, but ran into some similar problems in Wilmington. I had not heard about the picketing, but it must have been related. This was all in the news and can probably be Googled. Sun Valley had one of the top programs at the time. A few more:
Was Honea the guy who won a bundle on "Who wants to be a millionaire"?
Jim Cooper
Joan Nesbit
Eric Hichman
A mid/late 80's girl from Hickory area and went to Georgia Tech.
The Jacker.
Without a doubt, The Jacker.
Does anyone come close to the Jacker?
Jim Cooper - ran competitively for a while. saw him on the road race circuit back in the 80's
Joan Nesbit - was coaching at UNC - doesn't seem to be now
Eric Hichman - lived in Asheville for a while. owned and operated the local running store. recently moved to Charlotte
Eric Hichman sells drugs, plays golf and runs a little bit. He lives in Ashevill and works for GSK
Joan Nesbit Mabe - just had her 4-year string of wins at Uwharrie, a NC tough trail race, broken
is he back in Avl? i coulda sworn he said he was moving to Charlotte.... i'm in Avl, haven't seen him around...
