At least the Barbaro Fund may help prolong the lives of other horses with injuries.
Barbaro inspired people. Enough said.

now you are saying horses are unconcious???
look into a horse's eyes and then you will know that they are concious sentient beings that express love, nurture their young, and form lasting family groups and complex social structures and communication over the course of lives that can reach over 20 years
consciousness of what? killing fellow men??? greed?? giving medals for running a sub 4 mile despite knowing that a horse can run that in sub 1:35???
All this talk of dead horse has my dog running around the house barking for dinner.....

That is called instinct.

Great, so now animals have souls. There's a freaking horse heaven. I always wondered about that. Where in the Bible can I find that place talked about?
there was no competition left on earth for Barbaro,
he's training now with Secretariat
and they run in races that have no jockeys, no beginning and no end but are run to see who takes greatest joy running with the sharp wind in their mane, hooves pounding turf, and the fillies are all good lookin'
King dreamed it.
Lennon imagined it.
Barbaro lived it.
They don't bury horses, they sell them to dog food companies.
Purina is releasing a new line of "performance" dog food for the Westminster Dog Show. Any coincidence?
The thoroughbred horse is arguably the greatest running machine on the planet. It is interesting that the great horses draw the same amount of jealousy and spite as elite runners get here.
SOUL:
"For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity. All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again." (Ecclesiastes 3:18-20 KJV)
"And God said, Let the earth bring forth souls of life according to its kind, the cattle, the beasts of the field, and creeping things according to its kind." (Genesis 1:24}
"To every animal of the earth, and to every bird of the heavens and to every creeping thing on the earth, in which is a living soul, every green plant is given for food." (Genesis 1:30)
"On that day "Holy to the Lord" will be inscribed on the bells of the horses" (Zech. 14:20)
HEAVEN:
"And I saw heaven opened and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war." (Revelation 19:11)
"And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean." (Revelation 19:14)
The only reason they spent so much time and effort on a surgery that had a small chance of success in the first place is because his semen is worth a lot of money after winning the Kentucky Derby. Any other horse would have been put down that day.

Pronghorn Antelope.

What....They can't get the horse off and freeze it??? We have the technology to harvest the sperm off of a dead person and implant it on a person who the dead guys never met and impregnate her, but we can't get off a race horse and store his genes for future use?? Anyone, anyone??
A Cheetah is faster than a pronghorn and a horse can run down a Cheetah. Yes there are specialist runners in the animal world but nothing quite puts it all together like a horse. They can do it while carrying a person too.
As far as freezing dead horse semen, it's still not allowed in the Thoroughbred world. They have to actually "do it" if the offspring are to be registered by the Jockey Club. There are lots of dead Standardbreds and other breeds that are reproducing quite well after they died though.
The most interesting horse genetic story involves a gelding who was a multiple World Champion. The owner had him cloned and allowed the second coming to keep his wedding tackle.
did they at least jerk his dumb ass off before he croaked?
That's sad. Last I heard, he was in STABLE condition. Hahahahaha, I crack myself up.

And I can tell you that American Staffordshire Terriers are marvelous athletes, too.
Wow, what a pathetic story.
Revelation = allegory

horses would not show up at an oval to "compete" against one another unless someone took them to the track in a trailer. humans show up at the track to race each other because they want to.
May not show up at a track, that admittedly is a man made thing. However, the thoroughbred racehorse is bred to RUN, which seems to not be understood by folks like you. They run with or without a jockey or a whip...Even before they are handed over to a trainer and after they are retired. Its not something they need to be forced into doing...its in their blood, man.
