Hay,
I'm from Hamilton, and ran there for many many years.
Nice place to train, the uni is kinda close to the track (2 miles) which is a great stadium. If you are clocking alot of miles then no worries, the town is small with the main feature being the river right through the center seperating the town. The river has about 13 miles of paths, (pavement) which are great for running on, not much traffic and great to run next to the beautifull Waikato river. The club is called hamilton city hawks, they are a real good outfit, very welcoming. Every Thurday is a great tempo run round the lake and river which is the meat and potato of the training, although the start of that run would be a good 5 miles from Uni Dorms. Track stuff is wednesdays, Lots of hot girls to meet and good compitition all year around.
My advice, if you have it, take an extra $400 us and buy a cheap car when you get there. The best training is out in the hills of Surrounding the city and the price of a car in NZ is cheap as, and the freedom it will provide is worth it.
