Today our coach told us that the football program is taking our track to build a stadium on it. We have two weeks then we have to go train at a local high school. We are a womens track team so it seems like they should not be able to do that according to Title 9. How should my teammates and I pursue this?
It's been a while since I have actually read the wording of title 9, but I'm fairly certain that it doesn't require the school to provide you with a track.
I know that the University of Alabama Birmingham does not have a track and they do have football. Not sure if that applies or not.
Will you have a track in the stadium when it is done? or are they completely eliminating the track?
I think you guys are missing the point. We currently have a track. A mens program is taking that track and bulldozing it without replacing it somewhere else. I believe that title 9 does apply in this situation. WE just don't know who to talk to.

The only thing that Title IX would protect is facilities as a whole, taking into consideration both mens and womens programs. If this is happening and no new women's facilities for any sport are being built, then there may be an issue. But even then, if the school is in compliance with the proportionality prong, there probably isn't much you can do.
I know at one school that all the girls when to the athletic director and said they were going to sue because they did not have a locker room and they got a new locker room built. You might want to get the team together to go and complain to the athletic department. I am not sure but i bet it would conflict with the equity of facilities. It is worth a try.
Interesting.... Do the men have a track? Or was MEN'S TRACK ELIMINATED because of title 9? What about it? At least you have a team.

does title 9 have anything in it about facilities? i thought that title 9 onl required there to be an equal amount of female athletic programs and male athletic programs.
Title IX is bullshit. It's prolly the reason you have a track program and the men do not. But you're not happy yet -- you want everyone to bend over backwards for you because you are women.
Stand up as runners or don't stand up at all. Playing the gender card might help you -- but what do we say to teams down the road that face this type of problem but have both mens and womens squads?
Title 9 needs to be repealed. This is crazy. Whining about the "women's" track. Where is the Men's track? Where is the Men's team.

talk to people in the athletic dept first. if they do not plan on building a new track you should find out why and convince them to do so using legal means if you must. you could also contact any congressional representatives at the state and federal level. i'm sure that if you have a rather liberal and/or a female senator he/she would love hearing about your college not building another track.
Title IX has nothing to do with it. Its construction, it happens and causes people to be inconvenienced. If they are talking of never putting a track back in at your school (you still haven't specified), then you have grounds for complaint, however do not do it under the guise of Title IX.

Since you have a men's program you probably have no grounds for complaint. They are cutting both a men's and women's facility. That sounds like equal treatment.
is it a nice high school track - some of them certainly can be... if so who cares... as long as it isn't that far away from campus...
running to it might even give your team nice warm-up
besides how many days a week do you need to be on a track, maybe 3 tops? maybe 4

Your last two sentences make me mad as hell. You figure the guys are out of luck because they're guys but you should be ok because you're "protected".
Why don't you just do the right thing, show everyone your tits, act and dress sexy and take good care of your man.
