who took over as head of the Utica Roadrunners.
(Utica NY, home of the Boilermaker 15k). I'm sure you'll do great, would be nice to see your suggestions on competetive teams come to fruition. Nice pic by the way....

Yes Jim is a very bright guy will do a great job. Another Letsrun poster makes good.
And also, yes, that was a good picutre of him; much better than the usual Boilermaker mug shot of him in the throes of battle which always made him look like he was knocking at death's door.
older than Ed Whitlock??
So what's the first race - May Half?
I have met Jim at races.
I am surprised to learn that he has only been running for a few years. His knowledge and ability always led me to believe that he was a 14:40 5K type college guy that loved the sport and continued on.
He is a very, very competitive runner.
I can't say what he has buried in his backyard, but he has always impressed me as a decent and pleasant man with a good deal of intelligence and common sense. Combine all that with a love of sport and Utica may have a very good leader with which to advance "the cause".
Hey Jim, I like the ball cap!
I always thought Jim Fiore was Flagpole Willy...
Am I wrong?
I have thought this since first coming to this board in like 1972.
You could not be further from the truth.
As Elvis would say,
"Thank you. Thank you very muccchhh" (with lip curl).
Maybe I would've been a 14:40 5k guy in college, I'll never know. I think that's a good thing because if I had been (and knew it), running 2 minutes slower these days might be depressing rather than joyful. BTW, the ball cap is a Boilermaker cap from a few years ago (look close at the logo).
I don't have anything buried in the backyard other than some compost, but who knows what will happen after a year in office. I'm looking forward to doing some new and different things with the club this year, and fortunately, I appear to have a lot of support for my agenda among the other board members as well as club members that I have talked to. I really want to get the club involved with the upstate NY XC series this year. The club has been doing some great things for the newbies and recreational runners in town these past few years but the competitive side has suffered. I think we can manage both ends of the spectrum. We also need more visibility in the community and among area runners in general.
The only thing I'm not very keen on is the name, the UTICA Roadrunners. It gives the wrong impression. The name won't change, but I would like to get more people from the Rome-through-Valley metro area involved. Like say, people from Mohawk and places like that. *wink-wink*
Jim- I noticed on one of your postings that you sometimes run on a treadmill. Can you tell me what kind of treadmill you have and what you recommend for home use? I'm 5-11 190 pounds and ran a half marathon recently in 1hr30 minutes. I figured with your experience you were the right guy to ask!
Thanks
Jim : congratulations and good luck with all your ideas and challenges. Send an email when you get a chance
Bump!
