Can anyone tell me what the heck happened to her today? A DNF!
I didn't expect that. Also, props to Tim Montgomery!

She couldn't take getting spanked by Suzy again. You go girl!
That may be true, but what I really want to know is how the race unfolded and at what point Regina dropped out. Also would like to know how Suzy raced and what might have kept her from going under 4. Anyone have any real info?
I don't know, but according to mensracing.com, the meet will be televised 11:00 p.m. EST on ESPN2 on 9/16.
Thanks, oldguy- I'll check it out.
jacobs dnf is no surprise, remember france is very tough on drug use in sport. last year the women's 5km world champ had the epo scare and lance armstrong was investigated for a year.
it is a criminal offense in france and this may have been weighing on her mind.
since her 'breakthrough'in 1986 she has more often than not performed erratically outside of the US.
You're right- "surprised" was not the best choice of words. I should have said "disappointed".
disappointed that she is a drug cheat?...disappointed she has been able to get away with?...disappointed with what?
After watching her fade last week and run the last lap in 68.9 off the same pace she ran 4:01 the week before my guess was she got sick again. Who knows what happened today but somethings up ( not drugs, they test at all GP meets ) with her....again! To bad she had a great season up to last week. Will she run World Cup?
Regina seems to do the same thing every year. She is great at the beginning of the season and just burns out at the end. It isn't that she had a bad season, but it would be good to see her run well when it counts.
Suzy seems to be peaking correctly this season, but I've heard that she won't be at World Cup due to some minor injuries...
In defense of Regina, she is not 25 or 35 (she's 39) and the long season has taken a toll on her. The thought
of competing in two season (early indoor til September)
is torture and at international level is tough. There
were others that had GREAT indoors and average outdoors,
yet noone criticize them. If Regina decide and train
only for outdoors Suzy and Suzy's fans need to be concern.
Regina bashers it possible to like Suzy without hating
Regina, you know. Mrs. Regina Jacobs is no more on drugs
than Suzy Favor-Hamilton.
Vipam
Suzy won't be at the world cup becuase she didn't win the USA championships. Only the US champion gets the bid unless they chose not to run ala Mo Greene.
Suzy's 2-0 against Regina in their last head to head comptetitions and Suzy is running faster times. Looks like Rgina and her few fans need to be concerned.
Suzy, YOU GO GIRL!
By the way, I know you think Regina is hot. I'll admit that she is quite, um, handsome.
I for one ( long time Suzy basher ) would like to give the girl props she has come through with a great second half of the european season and beat Regina the last two meeting head to head. Did anyone see the race? When did Regina drop out as she's listed as a DNF or was she a DNS?
Regina was quite hopeful about the second half of the Grand Prix season after running a 4:01 for second in Monaco. I'm sure she is legitimately disappointed by the way her last couple of races have worked out. But is does look more and more like she has a hard time maintaining top form over an arc of more than a couple of races.
As for the comment that only the USATF winners get to go to the World Cup ...well, they do get the first bid, but some are passing it up. Chantee Earl has replaced Nicole Teter, who's injured, in the 800. And in the women's 5000, Collette Liss, who was only 7th in the nationals, is going. That shows both the low priority some people consider the Cup to be, and the fact that American middle distance runners, except marathoners, have pretty much wrapped up their season by now.
Trevor Graham even said that Tim Montgomery is passing up the World Cup because it takes two weeks to recover from running a 100 in 9.78. Sounds dubious
let me get this straight?
your supporting Regina but questioning Montgomery?
Politically Correct
Have you forgotten that overall Suzy record is um about
28 loses and 4 wins against Regina. I can see you reason
to want to celebrate-the two races Suzy beat Regina (this year) must of been the Olympics and World Championships.
Thats right SUZY you go pretty young lady and Regina you
go sexy, intelligent woman.
Vipam
Actually Vipam,
A little accuracy would be nice. Over the last 5 years, in outdoor track races, Suzy leads in head to head matchups with Jacobs 7-5.
Yeah. What he said.
Saw it live and will try to recollect for those who missed it...
Suzy was always near the front from the gun. Like 3rd or 4th then into 2nd. Regina tracked her for the first 800m but went off the radar around 1200m. Guess she stopped around 1100-1200m (camera stayed close on leaders and I only noticed she was gone when it pulled back).
Suzy kicked a little too early at 180-200m to go, but was shadowed by the diminutive Zhadorovshnaya (sp?) who kicked past her at 80m to go and was edging away at the line.
