"Cortland" is a State college in Upstate NY.
VAN CORTLANDT is the name of a cross-country course in the Bronx.
Last I knew, Charlie Bevier had the course record. Sorry to say, I don't know where to find a top-performances list. Good luck.

As I recall, the course record is up to extrinsic interpretation: Bevier 23:49 8k record vs Merrick/Carter's 23:51, clearly superior to the 8k mark.
Thanks, Malmo. Yes, those 5mi times would be considerably better, roughly eight seconds better, than Bevier's. A useful correction. Do you know of any other top VCP times? (PS: *Which* Carter?)
I suspect that a "best times" list would have to include interpolated 5mi and 8k times--not sure whether this is what the OP wants, or whether s/he is strictly after 5mi times.
[Of course, in one sense this kind of precision is laughable. I've been at many, many VCP meets where the officials just "eyeballed" where the starting line ought to be--or somebody (who knows who?) spray-painted a line in August, and then everybody used that line for the rest of the season.]
Sorry--they're roughly *six* seconds better than CB's time. At these speeds, the *difference* between 5mi and 8k is roughly eight seconds. (Somebody have a better conversion than that?)
edit: As I recall, the course record is up to extrinsic interpretation: Bevier's 23:49 8k record vs Merrick/Carter's 23:51 for five miles, clearly superior to the 8k mark.

Eric Carter of Penn State.
Didn't the guy from Providence run faster than 23:51 in 2005 (I know that the course is now groomed better than when the other guys ran 23:51)?

Yes, Martin Fagen ran 23:48 in 2005. Not sure if it was 5 miles or 8k? Someone will soon weigh in to be sure.
"Groomed" isn't the right word. They are two quite different courses. The old course was sand and rocks. The new course is a paved cinder raceway. I have pictures of before/after.

Larry Bryne-- Statistician and 2005 Allen Dawson Award Recipient
Larry is a familiar site on the sidelines of major track and field events as he quietly works with the stats.
"Competitor, coach, official, renowned 'guru' of Eastern scholastic track and former IC4A Championships Director, best describes the life-long association Larry Byrne has had with track and field, since taking up the sport seriously as a prep distance runner in 1944." So reads the meet program description of Larry Byrne-2005 Allen Dawson Award Recipient.

Whether he is or not....if one is interested in the history of the course in a time fashion it\'s enjoyable.
Alright Dude, I spelled it wrong. But I was curious about college times. Also the 5 miler that Charlie ran is different from the college course. But Thanks anyway.
Fagen's run was 8km.Merrick and Carter ran 23:51 on the 5 mile course, perhaps 23:44-5 for 8 km.

23:51 is more like 23:43 for 8k.
Oh how you make me laugh Richie... :)
Think the Providence runner may have been me ?! I won the IC4As as a freshmen in 81, from Soth Betok and Geoff Smith in 23.52 ? Think the record has been beaten around 2012 ??
