Just go out and buy Live at the Apollo. Still new, still the tightest funk recording ever.
Generations have stolen from it, and it still hasn't been topped.
Who cares? Are we to idolize a man who repeatedly beat the shit out of his wife, was addicted to drugs, and lead the police on a dangerous high speed chase among many other things? He's a damn criminal thug who helped give rise to the thugs we have in music today. The guy had millions and yet he still couldn't stay out of trouble. I can understand someone committing robbery if they are out of work and need to feed a family. I'm not excusing it, but I can understand the desperation. Rich people should get double the punishment when they do shit like that. I say goodbye and good riddance. At least his wife can now wake up knowing the day will not end with bruises on her body.
hey lighten up snow cone
" Thank you, and thank you very kindly.... Are you ready for star time?...... the hardest working man in show business, Mr. Please Please himself, James Brown and his famous Flames ! "
But at least he didn't kill his wife like your movie star
Robert Blake did.
"My" movie star? What the hell does that mean?
It all comes down to celebrity immunity. OJ Simpson, Robert Blake, Paris Hilton, Terrell Owens, Michael Jackson, Jim Morrison, James Brown, ... celebrities can do anything they want and somehow people still think they are role models. It's just sad.
Wrote this last night on another James Brown thread,it hit today's
Night after ML King is killed, riots broke out in over 100 cities throughout the country. James Brown scheduled to play in Boston. Mayor Kevin White negotiates with Brown's people to put his concert on live TV. It was shown on the local public broadcast station and Boston remained calm. Brown said all the right things thus preventing problems in a racially conflicted city.
Forget what you think of him in recent years. This guy was the Man. "Live at the Apollo" is required listening for all the uninitiated.
I do not defend wife beating. Brown was found guilty and served 2 years. He was the definition, the dictionary answer, to soul music.
