myy only question is what is his idea of "serious training"?
i say if he REALLY commmits, like at least 8 weeks at 60mpw, he goes 2:37ish.
I think Letsrun has better things to talk about. His ego doesn't need any more fuel.
...sure I'm jealous of the guy, but hey, I'm FASTER too... :)
At least it's not Dean F***ing Karnazes.

Yeah, but haven't you heard the other news ?
Dean is going to train seriously as well, and act as pace maker for Lance.
He reckons he can help Lance break 2:59:30
if he trains seriously, builds from 50mpw to 80 from now to april, and then from 70-100 may-september, he has a serious shot at breaking 2:30. He may even run faster.
Remember fellas, he's one of the most talented endurance athletes in the world. and 'anyone' can run a marathon.
Not everyone can "race" a marathon though.
The best part of the interview was what LA said his day after was like. He had to be carted down the hall from his hotel room on a bellmans cart ! Priceless ! Can you imagine being in the lobby for that one ! Riding on the little luggage cart with his finishers medal around his neck ! Wooh thats a great image.
It's a little early to begin making time predictions on his second marathon though guys !
lance is not stupid. why go out on your first attempt and run a sub 2:35 when a sub 3:00 would bring a captive audience? if he ran a 2:30 in his first attempt no one would have been too surprised. now when he does it it will again be bigger news than the race itself. he's a hollywood guy, why screw the pooch on his first marathon? he could milk this for a while.
wut ever happened to "the competitive part of my career is over, now I just want to raise awareness for cancer and live a healthy life" ???? Wut an arrogant guy

Exactly. Guess he likes attention. Not sure why New York would be his choice again. If I were him, I'd do Chicago or London or even CIM -- something fast to give him a better time. The know-nothings would be even more impressed then. I think with training that 2:30s is very possible this next time.
Yeah, that's it, genius. He ran 2:59 and had to be carted around because it was all a part of a clever plan.
This a wag at his second coming out:
This year NYC: 2:59+,next year he actually puts in some decent miles and runs a "fast" course: low 2:50's, actually trains and does some interval work: mid 2:40's, gets motivated and consults coach and follows his program: 6 minute pace to low 2:40's

Some people are just naturally drawn to competition. Sometimes you try to quit or get away from it but you can't. Haven't you ever said, "ok I have to do this once to prove it to myself..." only to find yourself more drawn to it by the challenge?

He's not going to train like that. No way. What does he really have to prove? He'll do 50ish in 4-5 days a week with some longer runs every other weekend and run 2:55.
"Never again" and shortly thereafter "I've got to run another -- think what I could do if I REALLY train for it" are cliches for "real" runners as well. So these statements are meaningless.
But as for WHY he'd do it again....I am spurprised that the LetsRun.com army of Nike Conspiracy Theorists haven't chimed in yet...I am not a Nike Conspiracy Theorist but I see how sports promotions play out...
consider that Lance is on Nike's payroll for promotional purposes, so if he wants to get paid, he has to promote.
He's stopped doing cycling races....He won't be on "Saturday Night Live" again....
So how can Nike make sure he's sporting their brand in the public eye? Maybe by compelling him to go where he got more exposure than any other instance except the TdF and SNL...the ING NYCM.
Joe, I suppose you think you know about business or something?
When Lance's entourage gets so big that they have to set up a new event (which will get far more publicity than the "regular" NYCM), then the Terrorists at Nike will have won.
If idiots would pay $100 to run with Dean K, think how much they'd pay to run with Lance.
Its all about the swoosh. If he wants to go faster he shouldn't wear baggy clothes.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
