Armstrong to Give the Marathon Another Go, This Time More Seriously
November 22, 2006
In an interview on thepaceline.com,
Lance Armstrong said he
intends to run the 2007 NYC Marathon. And this time he intends to train
properly for it.
After Armstrong's marathon debut in NY in 2:59:36, Armstrong said of
the marathon, " Without
a doubt that was the hardest physical thing I've ever done".
When asked if he intended to do another marathon Armstrong said, "The
answer right now is no, I'll never be back". However, he added, "But
I reserve the
right to change my mind."
After a few weeks thought, Armstrong has changed his mind. After his
agony in NY this year, Armstrong
suppose I didn't train sufficiently enough for a marathon."
But apparently he intends to train seriously for this one. He
told paceline.com (a fan website for the Discovery Channel Racing
when I finished the marathon I said I'd never do another one, but
then I also said I needed the right frame of mind over the next few
weeks. And so now I do think I will do another marathon, albeit I will
train properly for the next one. The other bit of a challenge I want to
do is a bit crazy, it's a mountain bike race in August held in Colorado
called the Leadville 100 .
It's about an 8-9 hour MTB (mountain bike) race, mostly on single track
that very few
people do and even fewer finish. So I'll do that in August and try and
run New York City again in November"
