Yes........
Yes........
for a variety of reasons...
Obviously just for women.
It seems like every couple years this topic comes up. Is Walt Drenth a good coach? I think if you look at his accomplishments, that speaks for itself. He is a great coach who always seems to be evolving his approach and trying to learn more. He has coached multiple All Americans, taken two different schools/programs out of the doldrums to become relevent on the National stage. Several of his runners have moved on to become pretty good coaches themselves.
Walt is a unique and intense personality. Definitely not for the prima donnas, and those that are afraid to work their assess off. He does not suffer fools lightly, as the saying goes. Seeing him go off on somebody is really a sight to behold, and is funny unless you happen to be the subject of his wrath. I've been on both sides of that scenario.
If you run for Walt, do what he says, and can learn to appreciate some of the quirks in his personality and temperment, it is guaranteed that you will become a better runner and better person. End of story.
What is the walk-on standard for men's CC at MSU?
Now almost nine years later, what would y'all say?
Good job with the women.
Average with the men.
Drenth, at times is an excellent Distance coach,
but a so-so Director of Track and Field.
Drenth is a phenomenal cross country coach, best in the nation.
Dominating with the women, above average with the men, too! At least today...
