1987 7th grade
1200 (girls weren't allowed to run the mile in TX yet)
3:58 it just about killed me
Freshman year of high school (1997 I think, maybe 1998 -- it was winter track) on this shitty indoor track in baltimore, md (the 5th regiment armory). Had never raced before, it was my first season of track so i had trained for maybe a month. I ran an 800 in the 4x800 and ran 2:25. It hurt like hell, too.
How would "my first race" and "my first race ever" differ?
ran a two mile (ish) xc race in about 18:56. walked a lot of it.
I was in 6th grade, 1988. The Haddonfield 5 miler.
Almost broke 40 minutes, but I kicked my dads ass.
PIG
The Armory makes everything hurt like hell, for the Armory is hell.
Mine was the Mecersburg Academy Invit in PA. 5k cross 1993, freshman year in HS, I got third in the small school division, 17:03ish?
didnt time it but it was a road race...assuming it was around 25 minutes, a month later i did time myself and did a badass 23:31!
Hey, I PR'd in my first race ever. A mile in 7:11 freshman year.
Condell Distance Classic 10k, Libertyville, IL in 1978. Ran about 50 minutes. My wife watched me do it and said she would run it next year. She did. Now she's run 61 Marathons (at Grandmas #61)and about 20 Ultras.
I can't catch her at any distance now!
my first indoor track race was at the amory in baltimore too. so dry felt like my throat was chaffing. good fun though.
One Mile Cross Country race in the 5th grade. Finished 37th and thought my 7:44 was badass.
Mid-Sept, '67, 2 mile in 13:07/cross, 10th grade. I'd been running all of 2 weeks before the race.
Freshman year in HS - September 8, 1981, 5K CC at Lynchburg College. The course intimidated the hell out of me - lots of twists and turns, a steep plummet through the woods to the river, and most notable for the long quarter-mile hill known as "Agony" at about 1.5 or 1.75 miles into the race (how many courses have an Agony or a Cardiac??) and the even more wicked "fire hydrant hill" w/ 800m to go. However, I did manage to beat my older brother, who was a junior that year. He quit a week later ;)
My first race was a one mile kids run at Bachman (sp?) Lake in Dallas, TX when I was 6. I was leading through the half way turn around, but once I rounded the cone I saw that some of the kids had turned around early. I came in third. At the awards ceremony the announcer said I should "get a sponsor." Ha!
All-comer's track meet, sometime in middle school. 14:36 3000m. Damn I was good.
uhhh... forgot to post the time... 20:18-ish. I didn't know squat about how to run...
My race was the 1994 Bradford 5k, if memory serves I 'ran' 26:33. I did a lot of walking during the second mile, and hammered the pace back down to 'stumble' for the race's latter stages, to save face. I was 9.
1962 - going where no 'man' had gone before ... eons before age running was
7th grade, 1992, 400 meter race in approx. 65 seconds. By the end of the year my 4X400 team broke 4:00 which was a BIG deal in our county! Two years later, girls teams were doing it left and right.
