Hard to predict who wins the Mile. So many great runners in there.

Woof, those are great fields. This the first Arop v Wanyonyi "battle of the potential WR titans" of the season huh.
But this field is just indicative of the issue the mens 800m might find in chasing that record - almost too competitive and getting your spot after the break almost certainly will require some kind of fighting.
Mens mile - could the Dream Mile see it's first sub 3.45 since El G's 3.44.90 all the way back in 1997?!
5000m - will be all about Almgren trying to be the first non East-African under 12.40, joining only 6 other men in history to have been under that mark.

I am thinking the World Record only gets realistic when we get to Monaco/Paris. Those are the two fastest tracks IMO, big stadiums, likely more controlled fields, and Arop/Wanyonyi will be sharper for either/or of Comm Games/World Ultimate/DL. Right now I think both guys aren't going to be ready.
Apprently Wanyonyi is not running Stockholm due to his partner giving birth?? Good for him.

TBH Wanyonyi really needs Rieti to come back in September with a slightly less competitive field and that would be the green light....
It is interesting that Oslo is still saving the feature role for Warholm in the finale instead of having more confidence in Jaeger.
I'd guess this is likely the final year for that. And hopefully Jakob is back as another option next year as well.
The Chinese teenager in the javelin will hold greater spotlight and anticipation this time, after the 71+ meter throw last week.
Innes Fitzgerald vs. 7 Ethiopians in the women's 3000.
Where is Josh Kerr?
That 800 is sick AF. Wanyonyi, Arop, Burgin, Tual, and Lutkenhaus is almost everything we could.ask for. Get Cian McPhillips and Sedjati in there and it's an Olympic final.
Looking forward to seeing Ines FitzGerald in her first big meet as well. I'm hoping sub-8:30 is on the cards

A 5000m field that stacked won't be all about Almgren. He won't even win the race.

Interesting to see that Sedjati and Hoey are both absent. Perhaps they both open in Paris?

Sedjati starts his season a month later each year it seems.

Wanyonyi wasn't sharp, Arop hasn't raced, Burgin looked great last time out, Lutkenhaus is world indoor champ but in his first Euro race, Attaoui is aerobically strong after that 3:31, and Tual is pretty fit. I'd think this would be between Arop and Burgin, with Lutkenhaus and Attaoui wild cards. It would be fantastic if we already see Lutkenhaus make a quantum leap this year but it is early still.
I think that Myers is right there with Yared now, and I would actually favor him. He has gotten a lot stronger this year. He is to 2026 what Laros was to 2025.
That 5000 should be special but I don't see any world record breakers in that field. If Almgren can break 12:40, he'll have a lot of competition near him and there will be a lot of pr's. It is hard to get these kinds of times without Yomif Kejelcha in the field, because he usually paces the field from 3k to 4800 before the kickers take over. I can definitely see low 12:40s for Blanks if the weather is right and the wind not a factor.

Where is Hocker? Yared running Rabat, Stockholm, Oslo and Pre
Myers running Stockholm, Oslo and Pre (plus her ran that 800 last weekend).
Fisher running Oslo and Paris
Nico ran the LA meet, plus in Stockholm, Oslo and Paris
Blanks ran LA meet, plus Oslo and Paris
when is Hocker opening up?
LA meet then Pre. I’d assume heavy does of DL meets in August
Teenager Yan Ziyi here to follow up her #2 javelin throw of all time.

Warholm is one of the best Norwegian athletes of all time. Olympic gold, WC gold, WR, etc.
With JI out, it’s a no brainer that Karsten headline. Not close between him and Jaeger

Well, Grant has broken 3 WRs😃
Above bolded comments are my sentiments as well.
So long as the predicted thunderstorms have passed and temps are still in the 50s, a sub-12:40 FTW could be within reach of several in the field. If that winner has the day-of-his-life like Gebrhiwet had a couple years ago, maybe we see a new WR. But definitely not heading to my nearest sports book over it.
However, multiple prs are what I am expecting. As in, best times for places 4th, 7th, 9th, etc . . . those kind of results.
With 9 runners now toeing the line with sub-12:50 prs, I think we'll see the deepest 5000 race ever.
Until Paris, 2 1/2 weeks later.
