I've always been very fond of the sea.
They were messing it and it fought back. Screw em!
A sperm whale sank the whaling vessel Essex, to inspire Melville to write Moby Dick.
The crew had a terrible fate, including lifeboat cannibalism. Noone really knows they're not a cannibal, until they are starving in a lifeboat due to an angry whale.
I hope it killed them! wrote:

The cannibalism on the life boats - quite a dilemna.
Three lifeboats with insufficient supplies, eat some turtles from some island, but when that runs out, the survivors eat the sailors that perished.
But that only lasts so long.
They decide to draw lots and the losers understand they will be shot and eaten. Two draw the losing straws and the act is consumated.
Reportedly "Seven men in total were consumed by their crewmates. Of the original 20 men who left the sinking ship, only eight survived the ordeal.".
Seems wrong, killing shipmates for any reason, but I am not so sure. Consider that they all probably would die unless a few were sacrificed. So, in essence, it's either kill some so some may live, or all will die.
Logic seems clear to choose the former. If they didn't die at the gunpoint of their shipmates, they would die anyways, and it would be a more painful, drawn out process to boot.
And that is why the whale left some of them alive, to endure this torment! Whales are smart.
Unfortunately it didn't deter other whalers

Babe, I love how passionate you are about whales. That’s my man! My Ahab on the sea battling Moby Dick with his raging cute möbius strip (he heh). I’ll be waiting for you tonight on the russcam, xox. 💋

Porphyrios has intrigued and fascinated me for many years. Shoutout to prof Anthony Kaldellis.
They're just frustrated at having a name like that
Just finished reading “In the heart of the sea” a few weeks ago.
Fascinating read.
Made me plan a trip to Nantucket in mid-May. Of course, there is a 5k that weekend.
Too bad the whales can't attack my neighbor's boats. You know, the POS boats parked in their front yard. Come on Sperm Whales!
