No pacer, no pace lights, just went for it. Such an impressive performance from SEC champ.

Such strange 5k races for men and women
Woo Pig sooie!🐗
Great run by Sydney. Very impressive!
And lapping runners the entire time! Suddenly she’s a big contender for top 3 at NCAAs.

But if she runs the 5k at nationals that will kill Arkansas in the DMR. Without her the Arkansas DMR ran 16 seconds slower today. The Arkansas coach has a tough call to make.
…so at this point you need a 15:13 to be top 16!!! Qualifying period is not over.
in 2023, 15:13 would have been #1, two seconds faster than Tuohy.
What is going on?
BU track is not new
Super shoes are not new

Mostly all the new Kenyans. 10 of the 16 Q's with 8 of them being freshmen or sophs.
What do we know about the men's winner Nick Kibiwott Busienei - a 20-year-old freshman for Arkansas. Showed up in january. School hasn't even bothered to put him on the online roster or give him a bio.
PS These big mega conferences are wild now. Can you imagine running 13:48 and finishing 11th in your conference meet?
I do think after this performance they’ll have to put her in the 5k. She was clearly running for a qualifying spot and she’s shown that she could score a significant amount of points individually— the same or maybe more than the she could on the dmr. Also she’s a senior and I think they’ll give it to her as her final indoor race.

Agree - it was clear what she was trying to do so of course they will let her compete. I don't think the team is in the championship mix even with a good dmr finish so why not? It also seemed to me she changed her arm carry a lot, and in a good way.
Really interested to see what she does in the 3k on Saturday. Does she go for it again and try to get another nationals qualifying spot? Someone said she ran 8:55 enroute to 5k so she’s clearly capable of running faster than her 8:49 PR if she feels good.

it was me, and officially 8:54.73 at 3000
World Athletics only has one race listed for him before this indoor season: the Chepsaita XC Gold Tour 10K in December. 23rd place in 33:03

Sydney was 3rd at SEC in 2023 in 16:06 (her PR was 15:54 on oversize track)
Mercy Chelangat won that year in 15:44. 15:44 (lol). That would have been good enough for 12th yesterday.
Where is Noe?

I agree and really happy for her. She was a phenom in high school hailing from a small, windy town in a not super competitive state, and it looks like she’s finally realizing her potential. Hoping she drops a great 10,000 m outdoor as well this year. She’s obviously in the best shape of her life.
