Is this good for like the back and posture? Does it toughen you up? Ever heard of it?

I've heard about it. It might sound badass but it's probably not healthy in the long run.
I slept on the floor for three years before I went back to a mattress. And that’s really only because I ran out of floor space in my bedroom. My mattress sucks, it’s saggy in the middle like a bowl.
also interesting to note that I was running my best when I slept on the floor. It does get cold though.
To lay whom or what?
Yes, it is healthy. I've slept on the floor or on a thin futon mattress on the floor for the past 10 years. Its great for my back and posture. It is common in other cultures as well.
When Larry Bird was having back problems at the end of his career he used lay on the floor!
I have a herniated disc (my first major running injury of my life after 22 years in the sport) it’s the only relief I currently get right now. Laying on the floor can be super helpful for those with back injuries.
I have hemorrhoids
Its probably not great for you. Our ancestors would have found soft grass in the pre bed days.
In terms of sleep quality it's definitely not good for you because your sleep isn't as restful, you turn over a lot and wake up more easily. Less sleep = less recovery.
If you want to be a good runner don't cheap out on 3 things - shoes, food and bed.
I saw an episode of Star Trek TNG where the bed on a Klingon ship was just a shelf (no padding). Klingons are tough and brave - that could be something you could channel.
