Using the USATF MLDR Road age-grading calculator 2025
77% AG which equal a strong mid regional level performance.
It is same AG range I fall in across a variety of distances from the mile on up as I approach my 70th birthday. It is frustrating that I seem unable to up that percentage, but overall I am thankful for being able to run and compete at all. So many guys my age struggle just to get around and I yet struggle with persistent angst that I can no longer get to 80%. I know this is unproductive, yet...
"Not that impressive when you consider there are 50 year olds running sub-2:20." - typical response from a letsrun poster who is world-class and NEVER slows
Not that impressive when you consider there are 50 year olds running sub-2:20.
Impressive because I don't think Rojo would be on TRT in his 50s.
Wejo: Come run a DSE race or two in SF and then some of the PA USATF road or cross races. The cross races have Masters only fields and running with fast people would make you fast quick!
The esteemed Rojo has talked about running a sub 3. Considering I ran a 2:58 10 years ago, I'm starting to think this is virtually impossible.
Age graded I'm curious what this is equal to.
I'm 39. I don't want to wait 14 years to do it. ;)
I think you should try to run the 5k equivalent of breaking 3 in a marathon (more or less sub 19). Baltimore has several free weekly 5k Park Runs. Pick the flattest one, train for three months and see what you can do, then build from there.
I like using the age grade calculator to set yearly goals now that I'm older.
But, I will say that some of you guys have no idea what it's like to turn 50.
When I was 48 I ran a sub 5:00 mile. I thought that in my 50's I'd go for it because it would make me a top 50+ guy (remember, that was 16 years ago).
By the time I got to 52 I couldn't even do a track workout for a sub 5 mile.
I DID manage to get a 5:20 once but it's been uphill and slower from there.
I'm not 50 yet but will get there soon enough.
Something I didn't appreciate enough when I was younger was the guys still in their 40's running 5k in high-15's / low-16's. I treated them just like any other competitor.
But now I'm wondering how the hell they did that. At 45 I get injured doing practically anything. Running 16-anything would be laughable because I can't run 25 mpw at an easy pace much less with workouts. My brain still wants to but how do you run fast when you can't train fast?
Anyway, all this say that yeah getting old is rough and I doubt rojo will break 3 hours for the marathon.
