Umm having lived in LA for several years it is indeed in LA. It’s located in Echo Park which is a suburb of LA.

What makes it not a great photo?

It was taken in the 1970s probably by one of his training partners on a hand held camera of the time. You can’t expect a 50MP+ photo from back then that you can get on a standard smart phone today.

Echo Park isn't a suburb, it is a neighborhood of L.A.

And to avoid confusing the city with the state of Louisuana, use periods as I did.

Facebook also seems to compress photo uploads a ton. It makes a visible difference even on current hi-res images I see uploaded multiple places. For example, our local run club puts the same images on instagram (the images' direct url are the same CDN as images on facebook) and on Strava. The Strava version of the same pic will be noticeably sharper.

If someone got their hands on the original print of this pic and were able to take a good high resolution scan of it and then upload it to something like flickr it might look nicer.

There is nothing objectively great, or even good, about it.
