Was pretty big runner in HS XC. Went to Colorado with that stacked recruiting class, but has not ran for them yet. Just announced transfer to university of arkansas. Does this show an issue with coaching at Colorado or is he not giving it enough time? Was he injured?

Wow, I actually just noticed this. Looking at his strava I don't suspect injury at any point. More than likely he probably disagreed with the coaching methods at Colorado. Pretty surprising though.
Surprised Arkansas is interested. What has he done to suggest he can contribute to a SEC team? In the past he would be a nice walk on who could hopefully develop but these days do they really have space?

Yeah if you’re ‘buried on the depth chart’ at CU, Arkansas is likely the same story probably worse with the elite foreigners

Recruited by Carlson to go to Tennessee, Carlson bails out of Tennessee and he follows him to Colorado, and then for some unknown reason he bails out of Colorado and goes to Arkansas. Who's advising this kid? If you compare rosters, Arkansas is carrying 9-10 runners of which 4 are Kenyan and 5 Americans who aren't that great. Colorado is rolling 17 runners, with most being really good. It looks as though Trey was going to be a small fish in a big pond at CU and chose Arkansas due to him being the stand alone #5 runner behind the Kenyans.
I hope it works for him, you just hate to see kids bouncing around from program to program trying to find the easiest route to compete.

Is that not the primary purpose of the transfer portal?
It is! but that doesn't make it the right thing to do. Part of becoming a successful athlete is learning to deal with some adversity and learning to work through it. Seriously, how bad is it at Colorado? Great school, great place to train at altitude, and a good coach. What more does Trey want? Clearly it's not the coach, Carlson recruited him to UT, and then moved to CU, and Trey followed him.
Let's see how Trey does at Arkansas, I hope he runs well!

Hard to judge without full context. Transfers happen for many reasons—fit, depth on the roster, injuries, or personal goals—and don’t automatically point to a coaching issue.
