I noticed there will be 2K and 4K "Fun Runs" after the medal ceremony at the 2026 World Cross Country Championships. These runs offer an opportunity for spectators to run on the same course as the championship athletes.
How competitive do you think these runs will be? Is anyone here doing them? I think it'd be cool to experience running on the course, but I'm a middle age hobby jogger now (I don't even own spikes!), and I don't want to embarrass myself.
They will be less competitive than the club race the next day. The club race allows open unattached athletes. There might be athletes at the front end of these races taking them serious if you need a race that day and can't run the club race, but the competitive portion of the fields will probably be just a few athletes. Just posting on letsrun means you'll probably be able to beat someone in the club race - usually local clubs enter anyone and everyone remotely interested since there is no need for them to travel.

Maybe they're trying to be welcoming to the international guests who are accustomed to using the metric system? My days of serious training are long behind me. I'm just a hobby jogger now.

Got it. Thank you! I did that race a long time ago. Even in my prime, that was a tough race for me to keep up with the pack. I want no part of that now. Fun Run it is!
My guess is that the non-high school heat of the World Cross 4k Fun Run will be modestly competitive, and will certainly have some very slow people. I'm registered, but I don't see any way to view who is registered or how many people are registered. $32.
Club Nationals 10ks will definitely be competitive (open and masters) and will also certainly have some very slow people. $45 race + $72 usatf membership. (even though they allow open unattached athletes, you still have to have a usatf membership).
