Do you shower at the gym?

The showers are the best part about going to the gym! Lots of curious men in there.

I too just go in the locker room irrespective of whether the showers are in use or not. It’s just easier to pee wherever and whenever.

Absolutely, 6/7 days a week. Our showers are awesome, get cleaned out all the time. Workout. Hot tub. Cold plunge. Hot tub. Shower. Good times. Lifetime Athletic

I'm in the gym by 6:45am almost every morning. I shower, shave, and dress in clean clothes and grab coffee while headed out the door. This way, I come home clean, dry and smelling good. I'm an older guy (67) but I definitely am not a 'lurker.' I acknowledge friends who may come in the locker room, but usually I'm facing the wall while getting ready. We have 3 shower stalls and usually 2-3 are available. No prob!

Going into the locker room at the gym is a sign of latent homosexuality, like peeing when sitting down. Even if you’re moving your bowels, you should stand up and turn around to pee.

My city just built a new YMCA this year. I will go in twice a week in the morning to get strength work in before work. I always shower after I’m done. Definitely a bunch of old guys changing and showering there after using the pool. You get used to it. Just deal with it. If you’re making excuses to either show up to work like a sweaty bum or not getting the work in b/c you think locker rooms are gross, then you must not want it enough

Since I can't complain about dudes staring at me and others in the women's locker room without being labeled some kind of -ist, I never use the locker room anymore.

NO !! After belonging to a few different gyms over the years. All the showers are nasty you always here guys blowing their nose in the shower and spitting who knows were. And yes I always wore flip flops.

I sweat at the gym. I shower after I sweat.

So yes, I shower at the gym.

That said, my current gym has nice individual cubicles to shower.

But I don't give AF if it's just a big room. (But I'm packing. Your mileage may vary.)

I don't know if this post is legit or not, but I really did stop showering at the gym or changing in the locker room because both gyms I've gone to over the past few years have at least one trans-identified man using the women's facilities.

Definitely a generational thing. Growing up back in the day, we all took showers after gym class--both junior high and high school. No one thought twice about it. College, not so much. But, then came the Army/Air Force, so group showers in the former SS barracks in Berlin, and any military gym I worked out in, especially the Pentagon Officer's Athletic Club (lot of old guys). This continued at Eugene's Downtown Athletic Club (more old guys). Now, I exercise at home, so no one but me in the shower. Somewhere along the line, Americans became more puritanical about public bathing/showering. I wonder when and I wonder why. Thoughts, anyone?

I don't know if it is generational, but it is definitely gym dependent. I work out at Equinox in my neighborhood, and I also have a Planet Fitness membership that I use when I'm traveling. At Equinox, showering is completely normal. At every Planet Fitness location I've visited, the showers are completely unused.

Probably mostly a matter of cleanliness. At Equinox I can be pretty sure that only one or two people have used the shower since it was last cleaned. At PF I've never seen anyone actively cleaning in the locker rooms or showers.

Americans have always been puritanical. Its just worse now. Yes, I shower and change my clothes at my gym after lifting. But the younger men? Boys? Man/Boys? don't. Mrs. FLINT belongs to the same gym and she reports its the same on the ladies side. Its grosses us out. BTW, the locker room and the showers are the best part of the gym we go to. Not complaining, its just a city rec center and super cheap-$18 a month.
